Competition SE4/5/5a

Post by scimjim » Wed Oct 11, 2017 8:29 pm

I need a reasonably priced competition car (SE4/5/5a) as close to standard as possible, with or without engine/gearbox.

Either in exchange for used pound notes or (preferably) as a part/ex against snotty (Ti in my signature) with 12 months MOT, diesel (needs a clutch and LOTS of tidying), a standard galv 1600 SS1 in any condition from project to roadworthy and MOTd, or parts (galv chassis, engines, boxes, diffs, etc).

Jim King

Current: SE5 (8Ball), TI SS1 (snotty), 1600 SS1 (G97), 1600 SS1 (C686CCR), 2.5TD SE5a (diesel 5a), 6 x random other SS1s.
Previous: SE5, 3 x SE5a, 2 x SE6a, 3 x SE6b, GTC, 2.9i GTC, 3 x 1600 SS1, 1300 SS1, Mk1 Ti Sabre, Mk1.5 CVH Sabre
Chief mechanic for: 1400 K series SS1 (Megan3), 1400 CVH EFi SS1 (Grawpy), Sabre/MX5 auto (The Flying Broomstick),
1300 SS1 (Number One) & Sarah's coupe.

8 ball is the best option at the moment but i had decided it was staying as a road car - so I don’t really want to fit a roll cage, LSD and the 200BHP engine if I can find something more suitable.

That is very reasonable for a standard car - but add a cage, full brake and suspension overhaul, a pair of good bucket seats and harnesses, fire extinguisher, electrical cutout etc, etc and you can see why it’s easiest (from a time perspective, not necessarily financial), to start with a car that’s already been prepared for competition. If I’m forced down the build route, that would definitely be worth a look.

Ideal candidate would be an ex-sprint/circuit car that’s had its engine etc sold on.

Doesn’t need to be exactly to MSA regs either...;)

The road car? Sold and no cage. The yellow car (grey when ebuilt by Dave Poplar) with the angled rad and bonnet vent was sold last year.

The first yellow car with black stripe was the grey on grey Dave Pops "mod" spec car

Laterly Phil bought Dave Pops mod prod "the one with the arches!" Which has changed owners a few times since. Own by Mr Greenhal now.

What about Gary Coxs white car. He hasn't used it much since buying Lemon?
