Red Coupe again

Post by *JP* » Thu Jan 11, 2018 12:37 am

This was somewhere on the forum some months ago:

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C949809

At the back of my mind I'm on the lookout for a Coupe, budget about £10k.

What I will say about this one, being polite, is that it's beyond my budget... and, going from the pictures and description,if it was not I don't think it would be for me anyway.

Apparently it’s got a Cosworth engine but the picture looks like a red Essex

Bit too pricey for a glam Coupe , but very good all the same

In fairness the advert does say 'Cosworth V6 Essex motor' though I can't say I've heard of that before

If I remember the position correctly, when this car first appeared on the forum it was a son asking for advice as to the value of the car which had been restored by his father.
So understandably he does not really know much about it,hence the advert, which leaves a lot to be desired.
I don't seek to criticise individual aspects of the car, but if the seller is reading this my advice would be to seek out a knowledgeable Coupe person to inspect the car and advise him how best to sell it.
As stated there are various unfinished aspects and also I assume the car is not tested and on the road.IMO the best way to achieve a sale is to get the car completed, tested and on the road with some mileage done to shake down any issues.
It may be necessary and worthwhile to pay a garage to do this.
IMO in the car's present apparent state the price is either optimistic or wildly optimistic.

Guessing the seller thinks that those adverts work like ebay adverts do on searches so sticking in tag words rather than something underhand, least I hope that's really the case

I saw this car some years ago when picking up some spare parts that had been listed on ebay collection only. I met the then restorer an older gentlemen who appeared to be doing a reasonable job on the car in spite of his very limited space.

Some of the details weren't to my taste but the workmanship seemed good and the owner enthusiastic. I'm inclined to agree with *JP*'s assement It's probably being sold by a relative and I'm not sure the details are correct and the pricing seems very ambitious for an non roadworthy car.

Will likely be bought by a dealer who will finish and market at full price. Look like fibreglass bumpers? Much to like though.

Red Coupe again

Post by Brucky » Sat May 19, 2018 8:39 am

Dear all, I am in the process of buying this car and have agreed a price etc. I live in Ireland and am flying over to view early next week. The seller is a nice guy who’s selling on behalf of his farther who has sadly passed away. It’s described as a 1967 SE4a, I’ve been on Wiki and it states tha the scimitar GT SE4A/B was produced from 1966 onwards, the seller thinks it’s a 4a, are there any marks that distinguishes the 4a from the 4b, does it even state it on the log book? It has a refurbished Essex 3Litre fitted and has been in the same family from new. I previously had a 6a and cannot wait to get back in a Scimitar. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
