how much of chassis needs to be original for V5 to remain 'valid'? :w
not that I have any intention of buying (or being allowed to  )

Triggers broom I suspect - but the bit with the number stamped on it? How much “repair” do you do to a component until it’s no longer the same item?

Look at Middlebridge Scimitar for your Yardstick ( forgive the Triggers Broom Pun  ), it was chassis and components that sank them over the racing Bentley. :w
Google The Case of the Bentley Old Number One.
Hubbard Vs Middlebridge Scimitar LTD.
Fascinating reading.

That certainly was an extreme case of how much of the original car makes it "the" car.

none of the chassis needs to be original any more - they changed the wording:

A rebuilt vehicle can keep its original registration number if you can prove you’ve used:

1. the original unmodified chassis or bodyshell (car or light van)
2. a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original (car or light van)

there is no laid down criteria for repairing the original chassis to the point that there's none of the original left :D
