I would be inclined to give Bob a ring and have a chat with him first but someone from the West Scotland Noggin might be able to help.

Ooh Will, you've put the burden on me now...!

Well, I've had a chat with my wife and she has kindly granted me permission to go and view the car this Sunday morning - not with a view to buying, but to help out Mike. Larkhall is about 30 miles or so from me. Of course, it will depend on whether the seller is actually available at that time. The other thing is that I know next to nothing about these cars, so it might be an idea to give me a list of things you'd like to know/have checked.

Thanks fella’s for the quick response. Re viewing the car many thanks Tom. And thanks to your better half for letting you go. Hopefully you will be able to see it on Sunday.

As to what to look for it’s mainly just checking over the general condition such as the fibreglass bodywork and paint finish, condition of interior trim as well as the vehicles history file and service paperwork. Has it been owner maintained or by reputable garage. Don’t know much about the the K series engine as my Sabres had Ford CVH’s. It does say that it has had the upgrades to resolve the problems related to the cylinder head and overheating. I’m assuming it would have a cambelt not chain so has this been changed recently along with the tensioner. You might check for signs of water/oil leaks in the engine bay although from the pics it looks pretty clean under the bonnet. Track rod end joints used to be one area that I had to change a couple of times during my ownership of the SST and also play in the steering rack. As to chassis it is a galvanised one so hopefully should offer up no noticeable problems.

Basically Tom just use your common sense. Don’t expect you to crawl all over it. Just looking for some reassurance as to whether its as good as it looks and will make a good buy.

Many thanks

Mike

No probs, Mike. I'll try and make contact with the seller tomorrow and see if I can arrange a viewing for Sunday. I'll keep you updated by private message.

Just having another look, is this the same one that GW had for sale for around £6500? I know the ad says they had it in 2016 but I'm sure I had a look round one there more recently?

Just to say I have purchased this car so once again there will be a Scim parked on the drive. Never learn do I. However feedback from Tom was positive and discussions with Bob convinced me it will be a good buy. So now the next step is to collect it.

As I outlined in my earlier post to get there I am faced with a lengthy and complex journey by public transport (2 buses, 3 trains and also being picked up at railway station). Also it would incur an overnight stay. Can’t say I am keen but if all else fails will have to undertake it. Before doing so however I am exploring other options which I would appreciate your views on.

Obviously I have had some quotes from transportation companies. Appreciate that it’s fairly long way to come so won’t be cheap but they do appear to be a tad on the high side. One reason for this is because due to the owners occupation the car needs to be picked up on a weekend which obviously incurs a penalty. Bearing this in mind perhaps may I suggest another option. Cheeky I know but is there anybody out there who would be willing to pick it up for me either by driving it back or collecting with a trailer. Let me say straight away I don’t expect anyone to deliver it to my door but if they could bring it closer possibly 100 miles or more this would cut down my travelling time and mean I could collect from them and get back the same day. Of course I will cover all expenses plus extra for their time etc. Would much prefer to pay a club member the cash rather than a delivery company. Any volunteers? Alternatively would anyone be prepared to take delivery of the car and and keep it until I get to them. Because of the short daylight hours if I could cut down my travelling time to get their it would allow me to drive back before the night closes in.

I appreciate that I am asking a lot but as I have often been told if you don’t ask you don’t get.

Many thanks and look forward to your suggestions/comments.

Mike

Josh/Tom

Got your PM's. Thanks for the offers. Really appreciate it. Great response. Both will achieve the right result for me so will get back to you both over the weekend once I've had a chance to review them both. Off to bed now. Us 'old geezers' need our sleep.

Many thanks again and regards

Mike
