Fascinating Scimitar...

Post by Dave 6726 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 10:46 am

Is it just me? (Old age and early morning, etc.)
This eBay item 322992348975 has a Scimitar V5 and Chassis plate and from the photos I don't think I can see anything that looks even remotely Scimitar.
Perhaps I'll go back and look more carefully later in the day................

Thanks, Roger; you just saved me some time. :)
So I wonder how this would go down with the Type Approval police? I see clever clogs has deliberately hidden the Chassis No. - a downer for our Registrars?

Commonly known as a ringing kit - the ad will be pulled pretty soon I imagine.

This sort of thing aids criminals. He (or she I suppose) steals your Scimitar, four self tappers for the two number plates and four pop rivets for the VIN plate and in less than an hour your car becomes ‘legitimate’. Ebay listings like this scare me. As others have said, this needs to be pulled immediately.

There are lots of unfinished kit/ home built stuff for sale recently, no doubt as the word is getting out about modified/ sva/ VHI etc, it always been there, but as scimmymike says, the noose is closing in and the days of using a headlight from a donor, making a car out of cardboard, stickytape and tinsel and pretending it's the donor car are over.

and they get away with it, helped by the fact very few buyers actually check the stamped chassis number and the engine number match the V5 document accompanying the vehicle.

Surely (I'd like to think) that if a kit car is listed as based on eg a Scimitar you'd expect to see mostly Scimitar running gear?

the above does pre-suppose that the buyer has some inkling of what the donor car parts 'looked like'

the old Dutton kit-cars always used their own chassis and a 'base-car' though sometimes you had to use front suspension fro 'another' or similar.

NB SS1 owners need not apply cos their chariot of choice is a kit car assembled form various random parts bins (but only the good bits) :-)
