I sold one a couple of years ago. 20,000 miles, rockers and shaft were like new. £38. Wasn't ported or polished though.

Sounds like a bargain to me as long as you have confidence in the quality of work and integrity of the original casting. I reference my recent experience with the Essex heads on the SE5a.

Wards invoice consisted of £480 for the cleaning, machining, valve seats, core plugs, labour + £330 for porting + £44.76 for the head set + VAT = £1025.71
Ric Woods quoted £300 for unleaded conversion + £300 for other work + £300 for porting + VAT = £1080
John Wade was not that interested but if we take what I paid him to get my SE6a done to a similar spec in 1999 (£485) and factor in the change in the value of money and increased VAT = £757

About two years ago I reckon the going rate for an ok head for rebuild with valves but no rocker arm was around £50. I sold three on ebay starting at 99p with decent write up & pics and they each made around that figure.

£500 starting price? I'd want to very sure of the quality of all the work done, with documentation, including hardened valve seats as a minimum. Don't like the look of that one odd stud in the pic - is it sheared off? I'd pass at that price unless the provenance was rock solid.
