I believe I have one off a cologne but no idea on condition Philip I'm afraid, it goes round, seems okay


SE4c rebuilding. SE5a similar it seems!

Thanks for these offers. I'm out today on a final recce for the Autumn Scimitar run (have to use the BRM), but will try to get the distributor off the car tomorrow. I need to check that mine has the Allan-key style pencil drive.

Phil it WILL have the pencil drive.
OR did you mean check the drive for wear??.
You will need a magnet on a rod to get the drive out as its not connected to the dizzy, a mirror on a stick helps too.
And be careful not to drop it in the wrong place when replacing it.

My heart sinks! I seem to remember reading recently (Practical Classics?) that somebody found THREE pencil drives in the sump! So, if the pencil drive stays in place - best leave it there, and hope it isn't as worn as Chris's was! Mark, I'll pm you know for the price of that new unit. Cheers, Phil
