HELP FIND OVER CENTRE CATCHES

Post by Dennis Nicholas » Wed Mar 07, 2018 11:28 pm

Hi all. I am trying to find suitable over centre catches for fixing a top cap on the GTC to compliment the tonneau/draft screen. It has to be one that fits the earlier hood fastening tongue and slot. The hook of the leaver hooks onto the front of a slotted piece on the screen rail and the hook leaver goes over centre to tension.
After an extensive search on line the most suitable and what looks to be exactly what is required is
http://www.spep.com/Latches/Draw-Latche ... 120BK.html
But that is in America as you can see.
Anyone out there seen anything the same, or very nearly the same in UK?

Dennis

Have you tried the likes of Screwfix / Tool station under the 'ironmongery' section??

old paper catalogue can be handy to hunt through , as I have no idea what they'd be called . . . ..

Given the price of the MG ones, they look cheap - plus they're stainless?

HELP FIND OVER CENTRE CATCHES

Post by Dennis Nicholas » Fri Mar 09, 2018 1:34 am

The RS catalogue rather helpfully gave the manufacturers as southco. A look at their catalogue has come up with part number 97-50-110-15 a black powder coated draw latch with a clamping force of 70 lbf. It is also available in stainless. It looks to be a nice small clamp just right for holding the top cap in place. At £20.37 a pair this would seem to be the answer. Now to do a bit of drawing and continue the design. I have no idea yet how many people would want a top cap to go with the tonneau/draft preventer being made, but maybe we could get discount for a number of the latches.

Thanks to all for the help.

Dennis
