Steve,
The wheels were n the car when I bought it 16 years ago! I think they're 14" x 6's as they're shod with 195/70's. They're not "wide" by todays modern standards but the proportions look just right on a Scim IMHO!

Lots of work has been going on, but I've not reported it !

So here goes, pictures speak louder than words :-

A couple of L shaped rackets made up in stainless to support the door hinges. All the steel work inside the door has since been cleaned up, rust neutralised and coated.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Thanks, it turned into a much bigger job than we first thought. I'm currently 6 weeks behind schedule

I'm going to risk being shot down in flames here, but I'm not sure I'd be entirely happy with the welding on that roll bar mount. It looks to lack penetration and it's a bit lumpy.

Really sorry if I'm sounding rude here but I'd rather not take chances with something my life might depend on.

I would have to agree. It seems to lack penetration. I would be inclined to grind it back to clean and reweld, using Argon/Co2. But then of course it is mild to stainless, so there may be a better choice of shielding gas.

I thought the same initially - but the colour change on the plate indicates that it has penetrated - perhaps the lumpy stuff is a second or third layer on top?

I knew someone would comment on that. It's just that it's the only photo I have. The weld was ground back, more weld was applied etc etc . After cleaning the whole lot received a coat rust proofing paint (not sure which one). Finally the hole in the body was filled. The same process was applied to the repairs in the doors.

The roll bar mounts are now probably better that they were from the factory, and the door fit most certainly is.

I'm hoping towards the end of next week. It's a long process getting it right, and guy who's doing it is a real perfectionist.

Well, trust it to be me

I didn't mean to cause offence, I guess the pic doesn't do the work involved justice. As long as you're satisfied, that's the main thing.

Absolutely no offence caused whatsoever. This forum is excellent as there are some very knowlegable people on here who sometimes spot something youve missed yourself, or can correct you when you're wrong. I have no problem with that at all. I think on this occaision I asked for it as I didn't explain the photo very well

Things are moving on slowly....

This week the guys have been making sure that none of the car's definition is lost during the rub down. A lot of time has been spent ensuring that the edges and lines of the car are nice and sharp (probably better than when it left the factory).

The wheels arches have been sharpened up and the door fit is incredible. When I look back at the original photos of the doors, I'm amazed that Ryan and his team have managed to get them to fit so well.

The car is now blue, but not the final blue. The idea is that the car will be finished to a good standard in this blue, and when Ryan is happy with it he'll paint it in the final colour. He shouldn't have to make any corrections as they'll have been done on the 1st lot of blue. I can't wait !!!

And whilst all of the above has been going on, I've decided to refinish all the door cards and the centre console. These will be painted in the same silk black finish as the seat frames and ash trays (I'll post some photos when they're done.

I've also built the seats back up on their frames and greased the runners. Luckily the pivot bolts still had their chrome and just needed a polish, I replaced the other bolts with stainless fasteners.

ImageImage

The chap who trimmed the seats has altered them so the base is wider at the point where it meets the back. This means that you don't get to see as much of the tilt mechanism as you did with the originals.
