GOL 535L Progress

Post by Oaksey » Sun Sep 15, 2019 4:07 pm

So as some know, I collected this 5a from Will Anderson a month ago. I've started to make enough progress on it to warrant a thread now - after a once over, it looked like GOL wasn't too far gone so the current plan is to get it roadworthy and MOTd but leave the exterior as is. The interior is actually in pretty good condition and just needs a deep clean.

The first job was to drain the fuel tank as a fuel line started leaking as soon as we got the car on the trailer and it absolutely stank. Next was to get the engine running so after turning it over and getting some oil pressure, I had to renew a few electrical connections, change the points and pour fuel straight down the carb, it just about ran. After that I just took the carb off and went through it as most mechanisms were seized. Next job will be to replace all the fuel lines and HT leads and it should be self sufficient.

I moved onto the clutch system next. Every part of the hydraulic system was poor so I replaced the master with a new one I had in stock, made a new solid pipe up and bought a new slave from power track. Of course, the old one didn't come out the bell housing without a fight but it was more of a pain to get the new one in. After thoroughly cleaning out the bell housing, it still wouldn't go in and I had to turn down the new slave a bit to get to fit nicely. It's in now and just needs bleeding, then it should be drivable in some form.

On the list too is the whole suspension and braking systems but they'll have to wait until I can get the car into the garage

Great news, look forward to seeing how you get on.

Just remember the wheel nuts are wolfrace, and the tyres are as old as the Ark.
