So it's been so rich it's doing my head in. Adjusted fuel maps etcetc. Phoned tinleytech and he mentioned injector tips. I said what....

So eureka moment over, I had fitted the lpg system without gas tips. They restrict flow so without them it's was like 20 times the amount of fuel.

And now she runs starts stops and ticks over

On a whim

And the engine is truly fantastic. So docile in town, or in traffic at 40 for 10 miles, any gear. Pottering along.

Then you press the exciting pedal and she bucks, screams and wails. Epic stuff.

Mikey Bikey's Scimega

So took bit of a gamble yesterday. We have our house in Falmouth on the market and my wife sort of commutes 'up country' in Somerset to stay with our daughter. So I get to stay on my own. So Saturday morning she's off again from Falmouth to Somerset and I'm left behind to do 'jobs' on the house.

The second she's gone I'm down the garage working on the scimitar. At tea time I go back , get a couple of beers, tortilla chips and dip and go back down the garage. That's tea sorted. 9:30 p.m. finish for the day, Dash board and electrics completed.

Sunday, I'm back in the garage at 7:30am. I'm supposed to be driving to Somerset at 3pm. Do I take the GTE, the most I've driven in 14 months is 15 miles. The engine conversion is unproven. The clutch etc is hybrid and could easily give up. I'm in a dilemma for most of the day as I have a modern mini on the drive and available. Sensible me says mini, normal me says scimitar end be done with it. The challenge is Monday I'm meeting lots of people so its an important drive.

I work on the scimitar interior all day and making it good. 3.30 I go in the house knowing its the mini as I've left it too late, I'm already anxious as I'm late and not even packed. I shower come down already 45 mins late and ... pick up the scimitar keys.

I cane it for 2.5 hours and despite stopping twice for lpg just to check the car over I arrive at the pub 15 mins late. 180 miles in 2.5 hours with two breaks.

The car was epic. The acceleration and cruising ability is just fantastic. Outside lane, waiting patiently for the riff raff to get out the way then change down to fourth, accelerate past them with a wail, back up to 5th and cruise at whatever. (Speedo not working !!)

And all the time I'm wearing headphones and streaming classical music to keep the adrenalin down....

Oh and the bonnet still isn't fitted....

did you need to drop a gear, thought it pulled like a train ? or just for shear amusement? and I assume no average speed cameras down your neck of woods ? ? ? ? :w
a quick convertor on the rev counter is useful for no speedo, same as a MF 35? with six speeds displayed/marked, one for each gear High & Low ratio . . . . .
even SWAMBO knows the speed 480 is doing in 4th & 5th on the as speedo is a bit reluctant to keep working (ruddy electronics :-( )

lack of cover keeps it cool? no issues with 'construction & use regs' ? :w

PS it was a pretty impressive build on that Saturday, was Mrs actually 'off the drive' when you headed into garage!!!!! sort of thing I'd get told off for doing

So I’ve achieved what I set out to; a fast exciting road car, comfortable but capable. This week I’ve driven about 800 miles. Not all in the scim, but two long drives. I’ve just completed a 180 mile drive in her, of which 100 miles in the dry ish. Averaged 90mph, 23mpg on lpg. played with a very tidy Astra vxr for only 20 miles but a Porsche macenne or whatever for about 60 on the very hilly a30, brilliant. The car engine note howls, especially if you change down to fourth and accelerate to 7500 rpm. Which I do all the time. And then back to fifth and cruise, listening to 70s rock to match the car. I overtook the Porsche in that manner then low and behold he’s chasing me. We then do this for 60 miles. He doesn’t overtake, just catches then falls back a bit. Im sure he’s trying to stay with me and listen to the engine note but his wife is saying slow down, slow down.

I let the vxr go by by when they left the m5 at Taunton and they were grinning like idjuts, I was playing dead cool 😎

The heated windscreen works great, the vw wiper system is a godsend, speed is wrong, it’s flat out so the wipers are flicking back and forth like a tennis match on steroids, but the action is so smooth, you don’t notice as there is no noise either.

Teething issues, the suspension is pants, all top bits but the recipe is wrong. I stiffened her up to drive back, but I can feel a trip to Sussex is imminent.

Heater matrix, don’t really need one, as the foot wells and gearbox tunnel get lovely and warm, but as soon as it rains the side windows mist up with condensation so I’ll get the blowers working.

The brakes, are really good, but without a servo I’m still not sure. They are a bit lively. Slightly pulling left or right, might be suspension.

Then rolling road. The wideband gauge is great and shows the fuel map to be pretty good, between 12 and 16 all the time. 12 under load which is what you want, however I’ll take it to Plymouth one day whilst at work there.

Roll cage is under way.

I’ve got some sprint tyres on the way c/o Craig. So I’ll drive on the 16” mg wheels and sprint on1b 15” stuff,

In all honestly, she’s not an all out race car, but hopefully one that I drive to at a pace, have a competitive event, then drive home... at a pace :D

Ps. Clutch is still the weak point, if you truly give it some. You can’t really tell as you still get wheel spin and axle tramp, but you then you get the smell...

Not brown pants, slipping clutch
