The Green Machine - Sprint Car Build

Post by gtcse8 » Tue Jul 31, 2018 9:13 pm

Just had another look in better light, it was an optical dillusion that hid the recess on the drum face to make it look flat.
Had I seen the picture in a different angle this side track would not have happened, SORRY.

Although after stating the last message, the Lockheed system is Far superior to the Girling if your allowed to change it??.

Ha, fair enough.. I think brakes are free in roadgoing class, if I decide to do next season in this car it will get Wilwoods up front and rear discs I imagine.

Ok Paul

I think the Three Pot Girling calipers are well up to locking up the fronts on a Scimitar, but the drilled and grooved discs do help in keeping everything cool in the short term racing in sprinting, your not exactly doing the 200 miles in F1.

Only my observations, but Willwoods are OTT and not exactly cost effective for what they are used for in Scim sprinting.

If your using super sticky tyres can you actually lock the wheels up?.

Thinking about it that route is probably more force of habit rather than necessity.. I get the Wilwoods from the states so I don’t pay anything like what the kits cost here. Even so, I only ever experienced an issue in sprinting at Castle Combe with the standard brakes, and again as you say, some decent pads and drilled/grooves discs would sort that out. Yes you can lock the fronts easily with the standard stuff and sticky tyres!

Game on indeed; and it is looking nice, but I’m very aware it could go horribly wrong when I get it up and running, just like you’ve just experienced Darryl...
