1982 GTC project gumtree

Post by ard126k » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:51 pm

I'm still waiting to hear from the PO if he has the bits I'm missing but I'll not forget.
This week's hiccup is engine timing, I don't have any marks on the block to relate the pulley notch to! My Granada handbook shows a row of about 5 teeth on the block but I've not got them. There is a bolt head in roughly the right place - are the teeth bolted onto the block?
Alex.

Yes it is a little add on piece with the teeth. It bolts to the timing cover. You could do it by marking TDC then setting the advance you want on a timing gun.

I'll have another look through the boxes that came with the car, maybe I didn't even realise what I was looking at. There's one on eBay just now so I'll recognise it this time

I also need to refit the crank pulley and instead of the usual keyway I've got a pulley with 4 boltholes and a hole for a spigot in the crank

No mention of such a thing in the Haynes book, I assume it's a later/better/cheaper way of fixing the pulley?

Alex.

Looks more like the additional pulley for PAS/AC to me? Far too weedy to be the crank pulley - and no balance weights/cutouts.

This is the end of the crank. You'll have to trust me about the keyway, but you can see the spigot around 4 o'clock

and this is the only other pulley I have which would go in front of the first one and do the PAS -

That's not the end of the crank, it's the damper - which is keywayed into the crank.

Thanks both, that's cleared up the confusion and let me check the valve clearances this afternoon.

I notice there are two designs of the timing 'teeth' - any significant difference between them?

Alex.

Just off to the 'Wanted' section to see if anyone has a spare set of teeth, and the clamp plate for the distributor, and a PAS pipe...

Today's problem is plumbing - can anyone tell me what route the fuel pipe should take between pump and carb? I've got these two pipes in the 'kit of parts' which look like they are to do with fuel but I can't make them fit even roughly around the engine area -
IMG_0341.JPG

for scale, that spirit level is 2ft long...

There are two clips on the LH engine mount that look like they may be for a fuel pipe.

I have two Weber carbs (yes, I know I only need one) - am I right that a Solex carb would have its throttle cable coming from the left not the right?

TIA

Alex.

I am not 100% about this but they look more like power steering pipes to me?

I think they're the fuel pipes - they bolt to the timing cover IIRC (the return may bolt to the inlet manifold? Not sure on exact location on the Cologne.
