Hi Dennis
The only adjustment point on mine is on the 'hook' which goes on the screen top rail - it can move fore-and-aft and the serrations hold it firm. Will that help you?

And so we come to the stage of the rebuild where I have to ask for your help to remind me where bits go!
I'm having trouble placing the earth braids on the servo side of the engine bay. Memory says they should run from the body mounting on the inner wing to the ignition module, then to the master cylinder, finally to the bonnet hinge. But the braids I have left after doing the nearside don't seem to have the stud holes in the right places!! Could always make more of course but there must be an answer, mustn't there?

Hi ard126K. Thanks the hood catch photo......mine is different. It is the slotted type where a tongue on the hood catch fits in the rear of the slot while the pressed steel hook goes into the front of the slot and over-centres to pull the tongue fully in. Probably similar in only having fore and aft adjust.

Earth braid. My one goes from rear body bolt (on top of turret) along top of body and then down under electronic unit with both unit screws through the braid; then back under some wiring and up to bottom of brake servo vertical face ( nut right at bottom of front face) then on up to front fastening of bonnet hinge......one single piece.

Dennis

Thanks Dennis
That's exactly how I remembered the braid route, but one of the holes in the braid just didn't line up. So I created another.

This is the second time that strange things have happened in the rebuild. The first was when I took the centre dashboard out to replace some of the wee lightbulbs - when I came to put the panel back all the wires to the instruments were the wrong lengths!! So I've now got a subtly redesigned dash layout.

I'm making progress now the weather is less cold. All the bits are back in the engine room, and the front bumper is reinstalled. I've been trying to connect up the headlights today but an earth gremlin is fighting back. Maybe tomorrow....

Found the earth gremlin, a bit different from the usual dirty connectors. The earth wire coming from LHS to RHS is split into 2 ends, and I'd managed to connect them together and deprive the lights of their share.... all fixed now.
Just in the midst of replacing the webbing under the hood which somebody had cut, should have the hood in place permanently by tonight.

Progress report. The hood, bonnet and bootlid are in place so the car's looking a bit more like a car again. I've just spent the best part of three weeks persuading the windscreen to fit, I don't ever want to have to do that again. Rear bumpers and doors next I think.

I seem to be in a one step forward and two back loop at the moment, after finding the way to put the screen in I thought it would be easy to pop it out again to tidy up the front of the dashboard top. (Yes, I know..) It was easy, but I broke the screen putting it back again!
Fitting the doors was going well until I found I had to tear down the interior side panels to put the striker plates for the lock back.
Still, not far now. I think.

Well that's that. GTC 358 is back on the road after a 24-year layoff, tested this morning and SUCCESS!! One bank of cylinders was running very rich but we put that down to a dirty plug and used the other bank's figures.

Just want to thank everyone who's contributed to the thread, in particular Tinker man who started the whole thing off. I'm away now to put some petrol in and see how my hair likes being in the wind!

ard126k Well done. Now you will need the tonneau/draft preventer for all year round top down motoring to stop freezing in winter and so HER hair does not blow around
and to go with it the top cap over the front cockpit area for dodgy looking days when parking to save putting hood up. I have found the new top cap excellent to use so far and it has saved getting wet front seats on a couple of parked up occasions. Very quick and easy to put on. I just have to add a set of tapes/hooks/buckles to replace the temporary elasticated ones (she complains her ........ keep falling down!).
Westcountry Trimmers has templates for both and about to do some for giddo (problems so far prevented him being able to get down for fitting as planed) :(
