Took it to work today...without any issues, the clutch biting point is a bit low, one fog\aux? lamp does not illuminate- and the heater appears to only blow warm\hot air on the cold setting.
That's all i noted today - i am going to book it in for a timing belt change- as i could not find any record\receipt so best to get that done first...

loving it...!!

Or new tyres. I'll bet their are old or cheap. Or both.

clutch is easily adjusted, check also for the clutch fork isolator rubber bush. Many cars are without, but it certainly improves clutch action to have one fitted!

If the tyres say "Made in China" or have a date code from the last decade (or older), it's time for some decent rubber.

it can do the same in dry weather if you decide to blast straight through a roundabout and the guy at next exit doesn't spot you and you need to use the steering wheel and brakes!! though you might be OK as it's red, ours is white so doesn't get seen :( (or they don't appreciate it can 'nip on' :D )

lol...my colleagues at work said the same thing..my wife STILL thinks it's the Ti...!! I wonder how long i can keep the ruse going...my daughters know!

I am enjoying the car...one ( slight) issue is the dipstick tends to pop out - spraying a little oil around..but i have read other threads for a resolution to help...will be checking the breather system once i have read the handbook....but really can't wait for the Ti...

It had a mixed reaction looks wise at work...some said it was ugly...some said cute!....i'd choose ugly over cute anyday (please no additional jokes!)

Good day all,

today i dropped of the car to my preferred MOT \Reliant enthusiast .
Now...normally he laughs and launches abuse at my cars...today he was very quiet and almost appeared impressed!!
I have asked him to give it a good going over..

This morning i set off- got about 200 m down the road and car spluttered to a halt!...NOOOOOOO.....
Reflexive instincts took over...so i popped open bonnet....as i cranked it several times ...it appeared to catch but splutter to a halt...must be fueling..persisted with cranking it ..it eventually spluttered into life and was fine getting to work (6 miles) and then to the garage ( 3 miles).

I can only assume that as my tank was just above the reserve sector..some dirt may have interrupted the fuel flow..will check the carb over the weekend.
Still a cool car!!
Ta

Manny

I had similar symptoms due to a faulty coil so don't assume its fuel - handy if you have a strobe with you to check for a spark. Rain Experts are good - I have them on the Coupe but Rain Sports are better still on the SS1.

that's a good point..as i am aware the GTE was doing the same -but when hot...as the SS1 was cold i automatically ruled it out.

Still got to order the tyres..thanks all for the tyre recommendations

Garage:"Manny - your beast is ready to be picked up"

Me:" Okay ..that was quick..any nasty surprises..."

Garage" No...engine is n good health - compression check on each cylinders- timing belt looks new- on the ramp all looks good.."

Manny:" so..you're impressed....?"

Garage "nahh..i'm amazed!! you got a decent car for once!...its got a small oil leak..and the gearbox thrust bearing will need replacing within the year or so...it's not too bad but will get noisier ( engine\gearbox out?"

Manny:" how much do i owe you sir"

Garage"Don't worry about...juts glad you got a decent car for once!!"

so there we have it...not too shabby :D

Good day all,

OK...I had my first hiccup with the car on yesterday's 5 mile commute.
On two occasions after the car was running for 10 mins from cold- when i pulled away with vigor in second\third gear - the car spluttered but soon sorted itself out.
When I got to work- and as the car park was empty - I was in second gear and went WOT- the car kept going but spluttered whilst gaining speed.
As i had a round trip to Nottingham after work - I was tempted to get the euro box...but didn't .
I could not repeat the issue when i came off the motorway - and the car behaved itslef on the motorway when at WOT and where allowed in second\third gear WOT.
I will retry to replicate the issue today - but not clear whether i need to look at fuel delivery- ignition components - clean carb...probably all three...
