The ECU does switch the pump. On an S13 I believe it’s relayed so doesn’t take the full load through the ECU.

You need to print this from the sx200 manual:

Black / yellow switched feed to pump

I'll get back to your pm over the next day or 2, as I'm busy in the garage at the moment, but I had the wiring diagrams to hand.

I should say, the black / yellow is going to the air regulator on the engine harness, the piggy back black looks like the feed to your pump.

Based on the relay wiring I'm guessing it does it with an earth feed Steve :?:

Yes. Try putting it straight to earth to see if the pump starts. If it does, you know where to start looking.

If it doesn’t, try changing the relay.

Yes I'll try an earth feed on the ECU pin but I thought we'd tried that earlier :?

I've tried a new relay :(

Try plugging in your other ECU.

Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car

Post by swoakes » Sat May 19, 2018 12:51 pm

Just had a bit more of a play with the car and the fuel pump issue.

With a new pump and relay in place and connections tested I placed a test lamp in lieu of the pump and when the ignition is switched on the lamp lit for a number of seconds and then went out as it should. Relays clicking as you would expect.

I then connected the pump. With ignition on the pump runs for a while and then stops as it should BUT no fuel pressure.

It occurred to me that maybe the pump is running the wrong way and is "sucking" so I reversed the pump wiring and tried again and YES the pump ran and this time I HAD fuel pressure. :?

So I can only concur that the existing feed wiring from the relay is black for 12v feed and red for earth where we cut it in the cabin :?

So "I think" the problem is solved by either new pump and/or new relay unless we have an intermittent earth issue with the ECU or an intermittent break in the feed supply from the relay or the pump earth.

To be doubly sure I may run a new feed cable from the relay to the pump and a new pump earth cable too as I have no idea where/ what that is connected to.

I also plan to leave a temporary supply and earth in the cabin NOT connected via the ECU in case we have an issue again. That way we can quickly swap the pump supply to a known good 12v feed and earth.

More wiring on the car today.

New relay supplied feed wired in for pump and plug fitted to pump feed. Plug fitted to ECU feeds and matching plug fitted to temporary pump supply.

If ECU earth fails we can now just swap the supplies over. New earth provided for both supply from a known good point in the cabin.

Pump is awaiting a new bracket before I move it to a more accessible location.
