Good day all

Today's mission was to sort out the mixture and tappet clearances- twas a lovely day for it! after a couple of hours or so - i finally i have a sweet sounding V6 and it now idles at 850 rpm..planting your foot down (idle) shows no black plumes of richness- managed to get 19 In:Hg of steady vacuum at idle.
I then took it for blast down the M6 - windows down - kickdown - it does sound very nice!!..i was a bit naughty on the slip M6\M5 but my mate was impressed by its turn of speed!
Got home and could not open the door from the inside  which was on my last MOT failure...

Good day all,

today was take the GTE to work day - i can report the idle is now at a steady 800 ish rpm - and did note the vacuum gauge did not always swing to the 'bad economy' sector - as before even coughing near the throttle pedal would make it jump!
SO very happy the new the carb\spacer and tappet adjustment appear to have been positive - just thought i would share.

Just found this thread so I'm posting in it so that it gets listed in my "View your posts" list. That's how I navigate this place, which is why I tend to miss most of what's going on.

:D

I love your body/engine hoist. Reminds me of a medieval trebuchet-like contraption. I expected the text underneath to say

There may be some work needed - apparently the connectors are reversed on the 6 series.

Manny's 78 GTE

Good day all,

well it failed :
Nearside Rear Upper Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2)
Offside Rear Upper Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2)
Offside Front Upper Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2)
Nearside Front Upper Front suspension ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
Nearside Headlamp insecure Dipped Beam (1.7.3)
Offside Headlamp insecure Dipped Beam (1.7.3)

Advisory notice item(s)
Nearside Front wheel bearing has slight play (2.5.A.3c)
Offside Front wheel bearing has slight play (2.5.A.3c)
Offside Rear Shock absorber has slight corrosion to the casing (2.7.2a)

so i have asked the garage to attend to the items and make it roadworthy once more...not too disappointed to be honest. I had a good run since bought.
Once it has a new MOT - i will probably sell, as my TR is near completion and the GTC , Ti need TLC...

That "Front wheel bearings have slight play" is one of my irritations. It should be noted that if there were NOT slight play, then they are too tight. Your modern spotty MOT yoof with his laptop, doesn't understand taper roller bearings. I sometimes have had to take in the factory workshop manual before they will understand and remove the advisory. Looks like you need to educate them!

Not sure what your chassis state is from that fail, I would want another opinion I think.
