Swoakes SS1 "In DE(b)T" Sprint Car a bit of progress

Post by swoakes » Sat Oct 05, 2013 10:20 pm

scimjim wrote:Raz has asked me to advertise his SS1 here - details of its development are here and here.

Its worth much more in parts but Raz would prefer to sell it complete. I think it's an absolute bargain at offers over £1500?

If anyone wants the 6 point cage for £500, the remainder may be split. I have dibs on the bare chassis, hardtop, active nose and swirl pot system - I may take the whole lot and strip it if there's enough interest - but I can't afford to have £1k wrapped up in a long term spares car at the moment?

Car is in Norfolk, email me if you're interested in parts or complete car.

1989 SS1 turbo galv chassis
CA18DET engine fitted, with flipped manifold.
Protech coil overs all round
Strengthened wishbones at front
Strengthened trailing arms
Sierra XR4x4 LSD
6-point cage
Lowered floor
Hardtop
Lightweight bonnet
Hughes design front air dam/nose cone
Stainless fuel tank
Swirl pot system
Side exit 2.5" exhaust
4x compomotive alloys with road tyres (all in good/very good condition) Small suede steering wheel
pug 306 radiator, probably some other stuff I've missed.

WORK REQUIRED

Engine needs wiring in (loom provided, no ECU) Exhaust elbow needs making Radiator needs plumbing in No intercooler system No front brakes No rear brakes (golf mk4 calipers, MR2 discs and bracket template provided) Body needs paint No seat or harness.

I may be interested in some bits if the car is stripped Jim although it seems a shame. If you are in contact with Raz I did PM him (not read) and emailed him about a lightened flywheel that he did have for sale. If you have contact with him can you give him a nudge for me. Ta

list any bits you'd like here (or PM me) - if we get to a viable point, I will buy it and strip it. will ask him about the flywheel.

Engine is standard internals, flipped manifold (welded upside down then machined), 440cc injectors.

std internals are good for 300+hp with a decent chip in std ecu, 440cc injectors are fine for that amount of power too.

I posted that in a response to a PM. Engine, box, loom, etc has interest at £400, so if anyone wants the roll age for £500 (a substantial saving on new), it is quite close to being viable to strip for spares?

Or someone could buy it, finish it, and win the SSSC.

Nothing much I want from it, I'd love the engine, but its got excess cams, valves, and a restriction in the exhaust...

Roll cage is good value. Some cracking bits here.

Jim I'd be interested in the lightweight bonnet, instrument binnacle (if the gauges are working) and possibly the nose cone if nobody else wants it.

If your buyer for the engine needs a known working ECU I have one here along with loads of other DET stuff, including a set of standard injectors (PX for the 440's  )

Also if anyone is thinking of taking this on to finish it, I can help with photos of how mine was done, tracing wires, DET parts etc..

All noted (I have the nose cone if it gets split for spares :-)) - Raz would prefer to see it back on the track but he's realistic about the options.

I'm tempted to take this on complete as our next sprint car when we tire of running in Roadgoing BUT I have no space at the moment (que JK with offers of club storage  )

I had a very quick look at the rebuild threads; is the engine known to be OK :?: I see he had the head off at some stage.

Jim do you think he would move on the price if I promise to get the car on track again

The engine was out of his 200SX daily driver, was ok then and ran a bigger turbo (disco potato, GT28rs iirc) so the current tubo shouldnt trouble it.

Iirc the engine he had the head off was the original 8v which again was ok but he had trouble with the canadian 8v inlet manifold waterways leaking into the 8v head i think, dontknow of a 16v engine issue?

Go on, you know it makes sense  , stop thinking about it and get it bought 8) it's a bargain. And you have mine close by to copy the wiring.

He's just gone out and told me I can answer for him (well, something like that ;) )

I think with a re juggle of cars (get rid of the other white Ti and maybe the Porker) it'd work :)

Yes, I confirmed yesterday that this is the engine from his 200SX daily and not the original ET that he had problems with in the build thread when he fitted the Canadian manifold.
