Postby sabrebaz » Fri Feb 22, 2013 4:23 pm

Hello all SE4 owners,

I am going to bid on the coupe restoration project that is for sale on ebay and wondered if anyone knew the car? Also it is described as as an SE4, how do i tell if it is a or b?

Best Regards, Baz

I would say a 4a, it really doesn't matter, it's a 3 litre V6 Essex.

But this car doesn't seem to be on the register.
There are very few Coupés with vinyl roofs, and they are all accounted for ...

It may be on Matt's "wanted" list, I haven't got that to hand.

Incidentally, I won't be bidding because apparently they won't post it to France !!!

Hi
I bought this car -for better or worse! Worse in the pocket no doubt!
I have always loved these since a friend had one in the 70s.
It is chassis 400-597 reg JRF 722F. I think it has been idle for about 30years.
I have a million questions but will save most of them for later! However -Although I have some experience with fibreglass cars, none with this much paint lifting. I wondered if there is any recommended sealer/paint to prevent osmosis lifting the paint.
What is the likelihood of finding boot hinges and a petrol tank?
I believe there is a coupe where I live in Crowborough East Sussex possibly modified for racing. It would be good to be in contact if anyone knows the owner.
Thanks
Nige

Petrol tanks sometimes come up for sale - but stainless ones are (I believe) available, at a price..

Afraid I've no idea about boot hinges.

Well done Nigel, hope you enjoy the restoration!
You'll certainly enjoy it afterwards.
Thanks for the identity details, it is indeed one of the "lost" Coupés.
Coupé registrar Matt Greenly will be pleased - er, are you out there Matt, no news lately?

I'm afraid there's no easy solution for flaky paint (I have the same problem with a ceiling at the moment!)
You will need to get off all the loose paint and put a stabiliser coat on what's left before further preparation.
I haven't done this for years but Lessanol used to be the best primer for fibreglass.
Was the car stored dry? because that would much simplify the task ...

Steve's (Coupé Racing) alloy tank sounds a good bet.
I'm amazed he hasn't any boot hinges as well.
Try a "wanted" ad on the forum.

This car lives in East Sussex but I'm afraid I haven't a note of the owner.
Matt would probably know.

Hi Nigel, Welcome to Scimitar ownership :D

That's an interesting car, the paint is obviously very tatty, and it's stood a long time, but there's also evidence in the underbonnet photos in particular that at one time it had a lot of care and attention.

As for the paint and body, I think the key thing is to get it as dry as possible before repainting it. It'll need all the existing paint rubbing down dry, and preferably the body kept in a warm place for a while before re-painting. If you do a search on here for "osmosis" and "microblistering" you should find loads of useful info.

If you're in Crowborough then you may be interested in the Sussex noggin & natter. Included amongst our members are Geoff who's a current Coupe owner (not the one above though), and Tony who used to own one. We'd be pleased to see you there! :)

If he does, I wasn't aware of it? Certainly Blue Thunder Transportation seem to be based in St Neots, which suggests he's not, unless he commutes a lot?
