Museum Se5a - Revival!

Well, picked her up today, she looks lovely and just what I wanted but now sat at the side of the m25 waiting for breakdown truck, angry or what. She was running fine for the viewing and the first two hours but then white smoke started from the left exhaust and loss of power which both got slowly worse. Will post more layer bit saving my phone for now. Apologies for the poor spelling. Any thoughts?

White smoke is brake fluid normally - or it could be steam.

Brake servo failure normally means white smoke from the drivers side exhaust?

did the water system pressurise, do you have any mayo in the oil?

Shes been sat a while so not sire about the pressure, took the expansion tank cap off AMD there was no hiss, looked in the oil filler and dipstick and no mayo that I can see?

Was it steam or was it definelty smoke? If it lost power, it could be low on compression, which could be headgasket. When you get home, try a compression test and see what happens.

The blown engine from my SS1 had a HG failure, but there was no mayo on the dipstick or oil cap. You could definetly tell from the coolant though, so it could be worth draining a bit of coolant and see what it looks like

Honestly the engines are so basic as long as there's no knocking it is straightforward, even if its a headgasket. Perhaps you've just been a tad unlucky. But well done on the purchase and i'm sure everything will settle ok.

Help from these guys is forthcoming and supportive

Generally yes but I doubt if its 100% that way.

Sorry to hear about your problem, my commiserations :(

If it had pressurised the cooling system, it might have blown water out of the overflow, your description doesn't mention anything like that happening?

As has been mentioned, I think a compression test would be my first step, once it's back home.

Thanks guys, home safe and sound. Guess what, the breakdown guy was a scimitar owner :D

He had a good look round her and reckons I have got a good one overall so there's something to smile about. He had a look and couldn't definitely say head gasket as she was running better at home with much less smokey stuff. I will try the compression test first (once I buy one and snow permitting) and post the results on here. Where shall I stick them? Project progress maybe?

With the other theory, there appears to be brake fluid on the reservoir cap, does that suggest anything? :?

Also she didn't want to roll off the back of the well sloped flatbed, guess the brakes are sticking also......so it begins :D

How much fluid is there is the reservoir - if its lost some then that's your problem. I hope it is as its probably the easiest to fix.

I think it still has plenty in it, maybe too much? Oh well, I bet it's not going to be that simple.

Shame, speaking again very generally the rear of the three cyls (cyl6) is the one most likely to be at fault. Ah well what else would you do on these dark winter nights - not much chance of boredom when you have a Scimitar. Think yourself lucky some of us have more than one.
