Hahaha....

The one thing I’ve learnt from this is how tough these little cars are. Although it wasn’t a particularly high speed hit (about 30mph ish), there was still a lot of energy to be dealt with as it hit an immovable bank.

We might laugh at some of the Reliant engineering but the chassis was designed on one of the early CAE systems with finite analysis for stress (excuses if the terminology isn’t quite right but my degree wasn’t in mechanical engineering) - hence the differing thickness of steel used. It was planned for energy absorption in a crash scenario.

Probably not sideways at the top of Loton, granted..

Not out of the woods yet, but I’m about 90% sure it’ll make it.

Today I’ve been sorting the bodywork and the wheels and tyres. I’ve repaired the split door with resin and a chopped strand mix. Realigned the door, removed and refitted the front wing after knocking the mounts back into shape. Tyres removed from the wheels to allow trapped grass and crap to be removed. Beads cleaned and tyres refitted and spun up (amazingly they both ran true).

Next job is to fit the replacement lower wishbone when it arrives (precautionary measure), but I think the car could be driven now. I’ll not get chance to look at it again until Tuesday.

Good job Steve, damage always seems worse straight afterwards, but a little methodical work and cars almost good as new 8)
