Swoakes Sabre Ti sprint Car ready for its new (former) owner

Post by swoakes » Sat Sep 15, 2012 5:24 pm

:) The Sabre sprint car has arrived; picked it up from Steve Cork earlier today (I'm taking bets on how long he keeps a space in his garage by the way  )

My intentions are to sprint the car next year in a few local events and then Josh will join me the following year when he is 16. Not sure yet whether I will drive it to the events or invest in a trailer; watch this space.

The car has been run in a few events by Steve C and already has most of the mods you would want in a roadgoing class car. It has turbo over-boost fitted, racing seats, 4 point harnesses, lowered floor on drivers side, adjustable shocks all round and decent tyres for the track.

My initial thoughts are that I would like to lower the seat on the passenger side as the seat sits much higher than the driver and to fit an intercooler. I would also like to tidy the car up from an aesthetic point of view. Not sure what to do yet; I had thought about having it vinyl wrapped either completely or on selected panels. Again watch this space. A few pictures of the Sabre below next to Josh's 5a

Best of luck, Steve. It looks a nice car. Any interior photos to show us?

It's possible to lower the seat on a Ti quite a bit because unlike the CVH there's no silencer under there :-)

It looks like the passenger floor will be lowered aswell, as my head sticks out above the windscreen :)

Sorry - I meant passenger, the drivers side is already as low as it can go.

Have a look at pete silcocks thread, he too the passenger floor down damn near as far as the drivers in his Ti Sabre !

I would have liked that myself :)
Anyway, if you have any wrapping done, make sure its the best quality air flow type vinyl to try and avoid future bodywork problems.

Yes I heard that you had been sniffing around the Sabre. You can't own them all you know Dave, leave a few for us mere mortals

Cheers for the advice on the vinyl

There's some YouTube video of my runs at Loton if you can find them Steve. Posting from my phone so can't link them myself. Just about to turn in for an early night, up at 5 to take the ss1 for the sprint at Thoresby.

Sorry I couldn't sell you the car Dave, Steve had first refusal and AJ had 2nd. It's surprising how easy it is to get rid of cheap Sabre.

This morning, I cleaned up the engine bay with some T-Cut. I wouldn't say it looks loads better, but it is slightly better. I couldnt get my hands into the lower down bits :(

I also did the windscreen surround, so it looks black instead of milky grey :) (bad photo)

Re: Swoakes Sprint Car Project What intercooler?

Post by swoakes » Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:34 pm

First job is to source a suitable intercooler. Should I be looking for new or used and what size of intercooler will be suitable?
