Oaksey's 5a

Post by Oaksey » Sun Mar 25, 2012 3:13 pm

Apparently, good things come to those who wait. Not in the this case!! After 36 hours of searching, I've brought a 1975 Se5a in bright yellow. It's been off the road since 2002, but the engine has been tinkered with. There are bills from 1989-2002 worth nearly £10k for a full engine rebuild, a new diff, various seals and many more little bits. That was quite a while ago though. The paint wasn't quite as good as I wanted. There are micro blisters all over it, but it's still quite good and it doesn't matter too much ATM.

There is quite a lot to do, but there's a lot of time to do it in as well. The engine hasnt been run, but it wasnt seized and shouldn't take much to get it running. It was parked under a tree for ages and the interior got soaking, so a new headlining and carpets will be needed later. The seats aren't in the best condition, but are not in desperate need of replacment or repair. I was suprised at the condition of the dash. Its nearly perfect :)
There are lots of other small jobs like brakes, suspension and other small things, but the priority is to get it running and on the road.
Just need to get it delivered now :D

80s alarm may need ripping out :-)

And that is the laziest battery tray mod I've ever seen!

I think a yellow 5a is amongst the best looking scims. It needs some wolfraces though IMO :P

Just looking back at the history, in 1994-95, the car had the best number plate I've ever seen: '5 GTE' that'd be worth a lot now. Anyone seen it around since? I did a DVLA check, and it's not on a Reliant

Well done, Josh, that looks good, and should be a good basis for a project. As said, yellow's a good colour ( :D ) I wouldn't worry about the microblisters, golf balls have pimples to make them more aerodynamic! Looks like you'll have plenty to do, I look forward to hearing more. :D

One little job I need to do is replace the hatch struts. Are they the same for all GTEs or are they differant for the 6 onwards? If they are the same, I'll buy speedy Dave's off him before the next noggin

Cheers
Josh
