Whilst searching for something else, this post popped up, had a read and spotted something - UOX146S has the same front end as the one used at Mira for crash testing, so possibly the same car.:

I don't think we'll be seeing that one again..

This picture has an interesting version of the Fox. Hard top hood with something like a roof spoiler in front of it. Never seen this on any other pictures or real car before.

The chassis cross member and front mounts on the MIRA one is different for production, was the change due to MIRA findings or just 'tweaks' to make manufacture easier?

probably never know :?

interesting photo shows how the front end/tyre absorbs a fair bit of the impact energy, doesn't help in a side impact tho :(

I think the prototype that was rolled as a racer (yellow 551) had that crossmember too?

Just re-visiting this thread and had another look at the crossmember - in fact the whole front of the chassis is different to later cars, look at the lower wishbone mounts

........then I noticed the exhaust route!

In November, we took number one to Curborough for a photoshoot for Classic & Sports Car Magazine. It was an 80s 2 seater topic, so the other two cars were an X1/9 (actually a very late Bertone) and a Mk1 MR2 - both beautifully turned out.

First up were some individual static shots with various close ups

and Malcolm (deputy ed) took them all for a spin.

then a shot with the owners

and some action formation shots. The red car was always going to be at the front :-)

followed by individual action shots

then the photographer had all three cars equidistant circling the top half of the track while he lay at the hairpin for some shots

then a final few shots in the paddock

we were promised an advance copy of the magazine and some original photos (hopefully they'll turn up soon :-)) but as the subscribers copies are out, I think I can post my pictures now.

All in all a good day, even if number one showed up it's separate chassis construction, chinese ditchfinder tyres and 1300cc against two 1600cc targa tops

A wedge-tastic, moving headlight day there then!

IMHO Reliant should have done pop-up lights from the start, rather than flop-down though.

I read the article on Monday when my copy of C&SC arrived. I was really surprised to see an SS1 on the front cover !

Well done all, an enjoyable read.

Just read the article and I think we got quite a good percentage of print there :-)

And good coverage for Reliant products in general with the top ten icons in plastic?

I've invited the deputy editor to Curbs, whether he makes it or not I want to get him behind the wheel of a Ti and push for an article on the Sabres.

Waiting for a CD with the professional photos and a copy of the mag for number ones history file.

There was an article in C&SC a few years ago that pitted a Ti against a classic Elan. The Ti came out very well IIRC.

Jim, my Sabre will be there all weekend if he wants to have a go or a passenger ride on Saturday morning.
