Another busy day in the man-cave, fitted the final front suspension bits, shimmed the calipers, fitted the pads, shockers and springs and finished the chassis brake pipes. Did the final steering rack assembly and rough adjusted the toe-in. Raised and roped the chassis to the beams, took out the wooden beams and put a set of Wolfrace on.

Warning. If you use Spax dampers, fit them with the adjuster knobs AWAY from the trunnions, otherwise the steering lock-stops will forcibly remove them! Yep, had to take it apart, turn the dampers round and refit!😳

Looking good Brian :D

Much easier to adjust the dampers in situ with the adjuster knob inboard too.

Thanks to visits to Craig's man cave for a few "garage nights" and Sunday afternoon at Curbs I'm back in the garage after these terrible past weeks and have found my mojo again somewhat.
The seized top ball joint on the off-side front suspension has been changed then the clutch and gearbox have been fitted to the block. Fiddly alignment jobs take so much longer without another's helping hands.

It’s been nice to see you out at Loton and Curbs BC. I’m sure the garage work will be great therapy. Keep at it.

Got the engine/gearbox back in the chassis but missing the spacer under the g/box mount, the old one was plywood so I'll make a new one.

Brian I have spare Steel spacers, Both sizes for the Auto`s and Manual.
Never actually measured them but probably 5/8" or 7/8", no where near them till mid morning on Wed.
Might help you having to bore out the Large centre hole for the mounting bolt ?.

It's been a week of admin and jousting with bureaucracy but managed a good couple of days in the garage. I tentatively took the packing out from under the g/box mount, spied the alignment and it seems right. The prop shaft was fitted through the hole in the chassis and bolted up, it seems to sit correctly in the lower third of the hole. The chassis will droop when the body weight is on it, taking the hole down a bit and putting the shaft somewhere in the middle.

Took the opportunity of a few dry days to do a mahoosive shunt to change the temporary chassis under the body. I need repairs done where the front suspension towers give support so cut them down and had the outriggers off on the old frame then used the wheel-free beams on the lift and the engine crane to swop chassis. Just got a few bits to fit to the overhauled frame then it's a mammoth sanding job on the body.

Refitted the strut between the suspension towers and the anti-roll bar then started sanding. I rigged a rope to keep the vacuum hose clear.

Hi Brian

Just admiring your sander and hose :w

I need to do a bit of body work on the gold racer and need to buy an electric sander is your sander just orbital or is it random orbital?

Any recommendations?

Cheers

Ben
