I wonder if yours has been replaced at some point?.
I did wonder if it had been replaced. The latch operates without much effort so I doubt it will snap (for now anyway)

Looking at that cam again, is it possible that it's just worn away? I was told by the previous/original owner that this car had covered around half a million miles and he used to drive up and down the country doing press photography so would have kept cameras in the boot. That's a LOT of tailgate action!

On a side note, this car is now insured and I am popping down to the post office tomorrow to apply for tax exemption. Exciting.

Not Worn at all Max.
It would be looking smaller at the tip, much like the picture of mine.

Few more bits sorted and the first proper drive last night, temps seemed to stay at or below 90 deg however the fan cuts in (for about 15 seconds) when driving slowly - normal?
Was happy that the overdrive works, however the gearbox grumbles and the brake pedal is very hard. Feels like the servo isn't doing a lot.
Also... I think it needs to be louder.
Time for a new list! :D

Looks good, bright lights too.
Pedal should NOT be too hard if servo is working.

Good stuff, nice to see it finally off the driveway and on the road.

Pictures tactfully taken at night.

Managed to drive to work today, changed the aux belt and fixed a few misc bits. Found some time in the afternoon to get it up on the ramp quickly.

NS sill and outriggers are pretty good, in fact the whole chassis appears pretty good. However, there is a bit of rot on the OSF outrigger/sill. Can't complain.

Also, to anyone reading this CHECK YOUR FUEL HOSES!
I replaced the engines bay hoses before running the car up to temp but neglected to check the hose at the fuel tank end...
All now replaced with R9

New washer pump and wiper blades fitted, ready for the rain now 8) (if you ignore the floppy wiper spindles)

Got a few bits ordered today including new alternator, engine mounts and a repair kit for the heater valve which sadly popped. I did manage to remove, clean, grease and re fit it which has made the car mobile again. But it will be replaced to prevent future left leg sauna incidents.

No pics today :(

I have driven Zeus to work nearly every day this week. Engine and gearbox mounts changed and reverse lights now working (broken wiring in the loom).
The gearbox is mega loud, oil level is good. Probably due a rebuild
My rocker covers are leaking despite new gaskets and my best attempt at hammering the warped flanges flat again. Don't suppose anyone has any fancy alloy covers at a sensible price?

S/H fuel warning module fitted as there wasn't one before.
No life at the fuel gauge, found a bad sender unit and sender earth wire broken.

Can anyone send a photo of how the 3 terminal fuel sender should be wired?
Ta

There are a few different manufacturers of gaskets, and as such a few different thicknesses.

Alternator replaced and attempted to change the fuel level sender today. 2 of the bolt heads were were held in with silicone! So out comes the fuel tank which gives me a chance to clean the years of grime off and make the stainless shine again. Also a good opportunity to replace a slightly crusty filler neck hose and gives room to access and tidy the rear light wiring/earths.
Since taking the photos I have drilled out the old rivnuts, I think I will upsize to M5. Also going to make a new retaining ring out of stainless.
