Should be an absolute monster with all that weight shaved off. Means you can have a few extra pies to compensate.

I'm actually trying to go the other way. Nearly a stone lost so far then another to go after that

Bonnet bracing completed and painted. Bonnet pins replaced with new lighter aluminium versions. Bonnet refitted; rear edge lifted to give more air flow and to avoid the new bracing rattling against the cam cover

A bit more progress.

Mesh fitted to bonnet vent and Pirelli DM slicks in 540x200 flavour fitted to the wellers. I'll try and fit one later. They are are taller that the Kumho's by approx 30mm overall so will change the gearing slightly which might be good as we have a pretty "short" second gear

A bit more progress. Fire extinguisher system refitted and new external pull cable fitted because the T handle broke due to rust to inner cable and brittle handle due to sun.

Electronic boost controller plumbed in and wired in with indicator light on dash for "high" boost.

Also started to look at door bracing and means of opening from the inside. Plan to use the original internal pull handle which will be fitted to the bracing diagonal. External opening will be a shameless copy of Nick Keysers car via a pull ring on the door top created from one of the original rods.

Nice, slicks always look so mean.

Same size tyre (200/540/13) and same rims as The Michelin’s slicks I ran for a year (16/53/13s the year before). Medium compound too, so probably similar. Interested to see how you find them. I suspected (never did a back to back on the same spec car) they didn’t give me much if anything over the soft/supersoft kumho but were much nicer to drive on as they are very progressive on the limit, needing the car to move to make he grip.I suspect a big part of it for me was that the car was over tyred - big ol‘ slicks and only 125hp. Cheap too; 4 tyres for the price of one kumho.

If any of them have any significant migrated rubber use a surform to clean them up.

Slick fitted to front OS. Actually a very similar height to the Kumhos and a bit narrower.

Internal and external handles fitted to passenger door. Will need to come off when we fit the polycarbonate to the doors which may well be after the test day.

Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car boost gauge

Post by swoakes » Mon Mar 25, 2019 5:22 pm

At the test day we increased boost to the point where it was noticeable on track but the boost gauge remained pretty static at 0.7 bar.

Josh has tested the gauge and feed to gauge and it does go higher when tested.

The gauge is connected to the inlet manifold on a pipe which also feeds the fuel pressure reg and the dump valve.

Just wondering if the way it is connected is affecting reading. Photo below. Gauge is off second T through bulkhead.

Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car boost gauge

Leaking dump valve? Not sure if it’s the angle of the picture but is the hose slightly compromised just after the tee? Might just the split trunking?

There shouldn’t be any airflow down those lines to speak of that’s for sure.

The "black" on the silicone hose to the left of the T is black silicone from the pipes previous route through the bulkhead.

I'll check the pipework to and at the dump valve which is in the nose
