Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car Nose cone repaired

Post by swoakes » Sun Apr 15, 2018 7:17 pm

I have a feeling that titanium would have exceeded my budget.

The SS set screws may cause a few sparks though :)

Yes not too bad to repair. It's strong but not quite as pretty as it was. It will look better when a new wing is fitted.

Good luck at Gurston!

Invested in a set of Rainsport 3 tyres and fitted them to a spare set of alloys to use as wets.

I'm hoping they are a waste of money

For what they cost, they’re well worth having in your toolbox !

Let’s hope they’re not needed this season

An Ebay purchase. £166 delivered

Fitted them myself and just need to get them balanced once I've proved they don't leak

I didn’t bother balancing mine. They’re fine both on road and track.

Ok an update since Ty Croes.

We ran a new set of soft Kumhos on the rear and a used set of mediums up front.

The rears were somewhat chewed up after the weekend so I set too cleaning them up for Prescott.

Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car

Post by swoakes » Wed May 16, 2018 7:44 pm

The other issue from Ty Croes was the fuel pump issue.

I disconnected the pump from the temporary supply fitted at Ty Croes and connected it to the original wiring and it ran fine :? It pressurised the system then cut as it should via the ECU. I was hoping that it wouldn't run so that I could have a play and hopefully fix it but it looks like we have an intermittent problem because it later failed again and a new relay does not solve the problem.

We are somewhat confused by the wiring at the pump relay which has 2 live feeds (red), a black with pink tracer (ecu supply?) and a big black which we tested as the pump supply cable. This cable has a smaller black with a yellow tracer piggy backed onto it. Photo below. Pump 4 pin relay is the one on the right.

Why 2 live feeds at the relay and does anyone know what the black with yellow tracer is :?:

I’m probably being thick here, but I’m not sure I understand the question Steve?

The relay will have a power feed in (live/ignition live) which will power the fuel pump when switched and a trigger (ignition/ECU live).

James... you thick NEVER

The wiring is confusing because the relay has no earth but as I understand it the ECU feed is an earth not a live.

Don't understand the 2 reds which are 12v feeds from the same supply :?

Somethings obviously changed because it's been connected this way since we got the car and it's previously ran as it should.

Yes the ECU will switch the earth, so just a ignition feed to the trigger (pin 86)

I’m not a small sports person but arnt those ECUs famous for the fuel pump earth circuit dying?

Does the DET definitely switch the Earth like the ET? Two positives suggests not.
