I've been toying with the idea of taking a mould of my new 5a and making a whole new roof... But after having another look last night, I think removing all the cracked gel coat (all of it) and putting another layer of fine matting on there before flowcoating may be the best option??

John Louch flo-coated the roof of Big Bob, as the shell we used had been bead blasted and was in pretty bad shape. A few other bit were done too, but the roof was bad.

However, that was a competition car shell, that was heavily hacked elsewhere. You're going to want a perfect finish.

Ha, it’s starting to come back to me, there’d been a sunroof and you could see the join so I flowcoated it.. Should be ok if I’ve done it before

Ok back on this one now after an eventful and busy 6 months! First job was to pull it out of the barn where its sat looking a bit sad. Unfortunately I’ve borrowed a few bits to get get my green GTE finished so I’ll need to get some new bits to replace those..

I wouldn’t put it past you to have polished that paint work just so it shines better when you are scraping it off

Yes I thought the nose looked like the later one rather than the early one on the picture of PA driving out of the palace. It’s a very very good job and the nose is probably the best I’ve seen for lines and finish, makes me wonder if it was swapped at the factory to be right for later publicity shots?

I don’t think it ever had a early front on it , to me I can’t see it in early photos ,shouldn’t as the early nose changed at chassis 500 . It has no other early features although have a look at the early magazine features to confirm that. I think the nose was changed later in it’s life . Easy test are there any wing mirror holes as shown when PA drove it out of the palace . Also any sign of a hole in the bonnet for the bonnet adornment .
It is going to make a nice car , and it deserves it .
