I have noticed that some fluid is leaking form the auto box on my 1974 5a. I've wiped everything down and i think its coming from the rear oil seal, can this be changed in situ or do I have to take the engine and box out.
Thanks

Hi Paul how much trouble is it to get the seal out as I have to do mine on the drive outside the house.
Cheers

Hi Tim on mine which is a ford c3 transmission it was a fairly easy.
The seal on mine had a metal lip which I managed to get a chisel under with a little help from a small hammer then used a pry bar and it came out.
Getting the new one in however required a metal tube that sat on the metal part of the seal and tapped it in with a hammer.
Took a few goes to get it in properly but its in now. Fingers crossed it deals with the leak.
Got a small seal to change on the kickdown lever then hopefully it will be a little more oil tight.

All the above was done with the car sat on a set of normal car ramps with the rear wheels & a set of hydraulic lifting ramps under the front wheels while its sat in a single car garage so not a lot of free space.
So much easier when you can get to things though so the hydraulic lifting ramps are worth their weight in gold, why didn't I buy some years ago I will never know.

Paul thanks for the reply I will have a go myself now rather than taking it to the garage.
