Question...SE5A expansion tank pipe layout

Hey there!

Yeah you, I'm speaking directly to you

Would someone kindly tell me where this pipe leads to, my guess was the top of the radiator.

Just started the car after a few months slumber and the pipe just continually leaks, there is a pin hole below the expansion tank which will be sealed temporarily.

Thanks in advance

Raz

The stub you've circled should just be an overflow (so will just be a pipe pointing to the floor) and shouldn't have any water coming out of it unless it's very hot. Try a new cap?

If you start it from cold with the cap off (assuming it's filled to about half way) you shouldn't see anything. If water comes gushing out of the top, you've probably got a blown head gasket..

Cheers Phil, I assume that's why it was off the road. The water is flowing steadily so head gasket is shot.

Oh dear

Well I'll give it some time as I did fill it all the way up. I'll invest in one of those fluid test kits.

Cheers once again.

After listening to the engine fire up it's made me fall in love with it a tad more even thou it's not exactly a mint car.

There is a gasket where it should be and I was going to open some the the engine to have a look if it's got a steel/aluminium timing gear. Might as well do some head work while we are at it. :w

Check the pressure cap first. It needs to be intact and have spring pressure when tightening it up. It could be too short or even a blanking cap fitted in error.

Thanks for all the pointers I will on my tight budget and lack of space go through this and get it running correctly. I've started a 'project page' I'm sure it's a bit to much work for me and not exactly great reading. I normally suffer from stress due to work so it's lovely to find a escape in this and the forum and club are very helpful.

I do appreciate the comments, so bear with me as some of my questions are draft
