Shock Absorber Mounts

I've got Koni shocks on my 5a. Are the bushes the same size as standard bushes?

Yes and NO
Depending upon the type of shocker it Will/Should have an 1/2" eye, but they did have different Widths, so the later se6 has a reversible spacer fitted to make allowance for this,
Some se5`s need a washer placing inside the eye mounting to space out the shocker.

NO
Standard Reliant supplied shockers used an hour glass type of bush.
Later suppliers use their own size/design
The only standard part is the 1/2" hole in the centre,
Koni and Spax used a steel bonded bush with different widths of inner sleeve, hence the comment about later chassis having top hat washers.
This problem came about with the intro of the SE6a and was due to the non availability of the wider sleeved shocker.
Over the years manufacturers/suppliers of shockers have re introduced the wider sleeved bush, but not all of them.
I`m not near my spares at present, but will try post a picture of most types available.

Have a close look at the rubber section, there may be a code or number on it, this will help identify it.
I did have a few koni type bushes in my collection, but would have to search them out.
Are yours US?? and that`s why you need replacements??.

Yes, the top of both of the front shocks have play, one significant play.

I am following this attentively as I also have KONIs on the SE5a.
On mine, the bush type - which is still the previous owner's doing (and certainly needing replaced) - is the left design in Mark's picture.

Would anyone have a recommendation from where to obtain these?

Lysander I have a few of those bushes that have been removed from shocker units BEFORE they were fitted to cars.
You could of course contact Koni and ask to buy from them??

This was because they are a rubbish design and squash out the ends and fail, so I do the conversion to the fully sleeved type, the Middle of the Three bushes.

Mark
