Thanks JIm but doesnt really clear anything up?. Reliant were great for raiding other peoples parts bins for their components so I'd have thought the axle was sourced from a contemporary OEM vehicle ?

The point is answered and to quote one post in the link

“” the MGB studs are 7/16" UNF, and the Reliant brake drums are bespoke, and without a lot of re machining the MGB drums will not fit “”

Thanks. Just seems not their usual modus operandi from my previous experience ie Reliant Regal 100E steering box , 100E wheels , e93A king pin , Austin 7 axle etc etc . Same with TVRs and other such low volume manufacturers . Oh well , I'll keep looking ta :)

Sorry, I was on my way out and thought that thread gave all of the answers needed. SE5a are 9” Girlings and MGB/SE6a are 10” Lockheed, so you’d need to replace more than just the drum.

So would the mgb backing plate and drum go on a 5a axle. It would be easier than trying to source a 6 series axle? ?

Yep - but only late TR3 and the 3A - early TR3 are Lockheed (as per late TR2).

The TR3/A ones look a lot less dished than my SE5as.

understood correctly?
SE5 (no a) 7HA axle TR3/A drums?
SE5a bespoke 9" drums?

Only the first few Se5 had the 7HA - some say the first 500, some say less????? After that, they, like the Se5a, had the 4HA

Don`t give up the day job.

But your nearly right :!:

The SE5 drum has the inside mounting face Inset into the inside leaving a step, the TR3 drum internal mounting face was square off the braking face ie without the offset step. :?

Kapri who did you get the TR drums from, and what did you order??. :?:
