I've all the parts to overhaul my rear halfshafts . I've experience with Jag Salisbury diffs before ( discs at rear ) . Do I need to remove the hub from half shaft to change both oil seals( if in fact it i sremovable . I take it the bearing need to be shimmed to sort out any play , what sort of tolerance is acceptable please?

The hub has to be removed - can be hard as it often does not want to come off. Be very careful not to stand in front of it as it can come off with a rush and the hub can travel a long with a lot of kinetic energy. A very good hub puller is needed - hydraulic one seems by many to be the favourite tool. You have to adjust the end float for 0.127 - 0.229mm / 0.005 - 0.009 inches. I have found with my axles that re-fitting the original shims sets the end float correctly - so it should when you think about it.
