How to remove a gearbox from a SE5a

Post by DARK STAR » Mon Feb 26, 2018 7:58 pm

Sorry I have forgotten how much oil an auto box takes, but it is quite a lot.
If you fill it from the side like a manual you just add oil until it comes out ...

Désolé j'ai oublié combien d'huile ça prend une boite auto, mais c'est beaucoup.
Si on la remplie d'à coté comme une manuelle on rajoute d'huile jusqu'à ce qu'elle ressort ...

PS just looked it up, capacity is 8 litres but even if you drain it there will remain some oil, so about 7 litres.

PS je viens de me renseigner, la capacité c'est 8 litres, mais meme si on fait la vidange il en resterait de l'huile, alors à peu près 7 litres.

Haven’t checked the manual but I’m pretty sure you fill through the dipstick tube and there’s a certain way to check the level (engine running on one type, engine off on the other).

All explained in the workshop manual I expect?

How to remove a gearbox from a SE5a

Post by Eric2205 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 2:06 pm

Hi,

Some news of the scimitar: the replacement of the "rear servo body" has not corrected my problem of reverse ...
So I decided to buy a new gearbox (with a new torque converter)
But there was a problem during transport: the body of the gearbox was broken.
I should finally receive my new gearbox in the week.
Hopefully I'll be able to drive my Se5 in May

That's extreme negligence if it arrived like that, some serious impact damage sustained.
Best o' luck to you and here's hoping for a swift and successful outcome.

You do fill the auto box through the dipstick tube - you have to run the engine and move though all the gears to get the oil to circulate then check the level on the dipstick and add oil to get the level right. There are also two types of oil for the auto box - which type you use depends on the colour of the knob on the dipstick. Best ask the supplier of the gearbox which oil it needs. I have the info "somewhere" but it will take time to find it. Roger will remember without having to search no doubt.

It’s the C3 boxes that have different coloured dipsticks and can take Dexron in the later versions.

C'est une Borg et Warner et pas de Dexron
