Scimitar Owners

Post by woderaider » Sun Nov 22, 2015 11:20 am

Hi all

I recently paid my £5.00 and took advantage of the DVLA's 'Who owned my car before me' information department. They were very helpful and even apologetic that since their records appear to start in 1977, unless they have the old buff logbooks they cannot always give full information.
Anyway - it appears that I am the 21st owner of my '69 Se5.
Can anyone top this?

I believe I am number 16 - that's 2.375 years per owner of my '77 SE6A. I make yours 2.19 years, so yours must have been even more unreliable than mine!

Yes, it looks that way, I have two consecutive owners who only kept the car for a month each!

Of course that may not be a reflection of the car - it may have been the *owners* that were unreliable.....

Not even close to topping that!

My 43 year old 5a has had 4 previous owners and one change was a transfer from a company to the director's wife. The Middlebridge has 6 previous, two three month stints, one with Reliant Motors and one with Graham Walker and one "owner" was a dealership which had to "own" it to tax it.

I certainly agree with Roger's remark that it is most likely the owners who were unreliable - owner number 18 had the car for 5 years and spent a lot of money putting it in good order after (I suspect) several years of neglect. He was a Norwegian....

I'm liking the unreliable owner idea. That's 15 accounted for then...

I'm the 4th owner of my '77 SE6A, and the first two were directors of the same company, so arguably I'm the third. The last owner had the car 32 years and clearly cared for it, though for the last 10 years it was off the road. My car seems to have been blessed with reliable owners. 14 months and counting for me and so far as I'm concerned, my SE6A is a keeper. SWMBO agrees too!

Officially, I am the third owner of my GTE, but as the second only had it long enough to take the private plate off it I count it as a one owner car.

The Yellow Peril and the SS1 have both, IIRC, had 8 previous keepers. I've owned the mulberry car since Feb. 1983, so nearly 33 years and it only had two previous keepers, the first, for just over a year, being the Reliant Motor Company. :)

On a slightly different topic, but related to ownership: I've noticed that the membership numbers have declined over the years, so my theory is that existing members keep buying Scims as they come on the market, and this stops the vast majority experiencing the joys of pure motoring. Am I right?
Of course it also means they don't change ownership as frequently as in the past?
