2 rod box, overdrive inhibitor switch

Post by MarkHawkins » Thu Feb 16, 2017 9:17 pm

Before fitting it, how can we check that the overdrive / reverse detector switch is making all the right connections? Using a continuity tester I find moving the position of the switch makes a difference to continuity between the 4 tags, but is there a diagram / table to help? I tried looking at the Newcastle Noggin site but it doesn't seem available currently.

IIRC the two circuits are either side, so check for continuity on the two connectors on one side - should go on and off with switch position (centre to side), then the same the other side.

Yes, that's what we seem to have happening - two circuits either side rather than across the ends of the switch as we'd first assumed.

I assume that the Newcastle site is off because of the change in servers as its done within the club site - hopefully the link will be restored soon. Looking at the diagram there are two separate switches in the single unit.

I think we can leave the wiring until later. I dropped off the tested switch at the clutch / gearbox specialists this morning - hoping for the car back next week.

Yes, Iv'e recently done this job . Switch on one side, there should be NC . That's the 1st& 2nd gear position. In the centre should make contact on one pair at one end of the switch, IIRC its the yellow pair, that's making O/D available. Move the switch further to the other end, the yellow pair should be NC, but the other pair(green on my car) make contact, that's the reversing light.
