Silverstone Classic 2017 - Now With Pictures

Post by Old and Slow » Wed Jun 07, 2017 12:44 pm

I've been emailed, once again we have an opportunity to enter a vehicle in the Concours competition. I tried and failed last year, :? but if no-one else is interested in submitting I'll try again this year 8)

Well, I made a submission for the Concours, only to receive an email saying they liked the Sabre Six but the competition has been cancelled, owing to the lack of entries.
Shame.

A bit off-thread Kev, but this week-end is the 75th anniversary of Blackbushe Airport
http://www.blackbushe75.com/
I'll be there on Sunday with 660XYB as part of the Barkham Club, I believe we are the only Car Club to be invited, exclusive, hope there are some other interesting cars (and 'planes).
And after that - Silverstone, looking forward to seeing you there.

Hi All,
Just received confirmation of where the RSSOC stand will be situated this year. We are on the south side of the National Straight just before the Brooklands and Luffield corners. It'll be a great place to watch the action on track and also to see the 850+ Porsches parked up across the way! Lovely
Cheers

What's wrong with Porsche? My brother has 2, and we get free coffee etc. on their stand (I agree ,there are toooooo many of them)

However, a Boxster at under 8 grand is fantastic value.

Hi Nick, have no problem with the cars, in fact I've always quite liked a Cayman, it's the PCGB I take issue with.
My personal opinion of the PCGB is that as a paying punter into the show, I resent having to walk past nearly 1000 Porsches that take up precious space that could be potentially filled with other more "classic" Clubs.
Over the last couple of years I have taken photos of the so called "Porsche Club" areas which are empty, whilst the RSSOC and other clubs are shoe horned into a space barely big enough to take the cars.
I take onboard that Porsche have a full time presence at Silverstone and that they are a sponsor of the event, but as you say, there are just too many of them. I've not got a problem if they limited the number to a 200/300 or so....
By walking past the 139th 911 or whatever it's derivative is, quite frankly they all look the same AND I don't see many people if any stopping to talk to the owners! :w
And another thing......possibly 80% of the PCGB "car park" is filled with 3 year old or newer cars. The clue is in the name "The Silverstone CLASSIC".
Anyway, apologies I've ranted on too much, but you did ask! :D
Looking forward to meeting up in a week or so time!
Cheers
Kev

I think that, in the words of the song, we should "accentuate the positive" - it's great to be there in our hand-made, limited production, rare, but most of all, trend setting, cars. The car which established a trend for "sporting shooting brakes" that continues to this day - even Porsche follows the trend with it's new Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo. Scimitars lead, where others follow! :)

This was said a bit tongue in cheek, I get Kev's point.

Looking forward to a good weekend

Porsche ? boring, see them every day. Plenty of money where I live, it seems.
Theres more at silverstone than cars, will be flying displays by stunt teams, hopefully edwardian aircraft if winds are feeble enough, and hot air balloons day and night.
