F1 on TV

Post by scimjim » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:16 am

I read that the proposal to add an extra point for fastest lap may be in before the first race?

Like many here, I don't watch enough TV to warrant Sky Sports and F1 has definitely got less appealing for the viewer over the years (although I thought last season that it's improving under the new management), so I'll happily watch the highlights. I like Steve Jones and Coulthard, Weber, Jordan (plus Wolff/Wolff and Horner on call) and think they're infinitely better than the team Sky have IMO. I'm not sure how Billy Monger will do in the commentary role this year but it could be interesting?

I prefer Sky and still get it as a free channel as we have not signed up for SkyQ

Unfortunately an extra point isn't much of an incentive for those vying for top spot due to the difference in points for win/2nd now......might give the also rans an incentive to gain monies though.

Isn't it sad that I think of all teams bar ferrari, Mercedes and red bull as also rans....I could be less polite, but still remember when f1 was exciting as I grew up on the farm at Silverstone and used to clear the sheep off the old runways etc. before race days!

that's absolutely who it's aimed at - the odd extra constructors AND driver point could make a huge difference to the midfield teams (it's only available for top 10 finishers) but importantly it'll change the whole tactical picture - is it worth/have you got time to go in for new tyres near the end of the race? is your drivetrain going to stand an extra full-on lap every race where it might have been relaxed a little previously, etc.
