that's the data we used to get from the DfT (supposedly taken from MOT data) - as you can see from the SS1 & SST lines, the collection and/or collation is too poor to use and throws the integrity of the remainder into question.

Current: SE5 (8Ball), TI SS1 (snotty), 1600 SS1 (G97), 1600 SS1 (C686CCR), 2.5TD SE5a (diesel 5a), 6 x random other SS1s.
Previous: SE5, 3 x SE5a, 2 x SE6a, 3 x SE6b, GTC, 2.9i GTC, 3 x 1600 SS1, 1300 SS1, Mk1 Ti Sabre, Mk1.5 CVH Sabre
Chief mechanic for: 1400 K series SS1 (Megan3), 1400 CVH EFi SS1 (Grawpy), Sabre/MX5 auto (The Flying Broomstick),

Yes, if this is based on the kind of MOT data that was released in a blaze of publicity/hype a little while ago, there's a thread elsewhere giving it a fairly thorough debunking.

Edit Here it is

edit (again  ) Having now looked in more detail at some of the base data this is clearly different data from that which I was referring to above, so I'll reserve judgement for a while. :)

I've just noticed that on the table Ian linked to if you click on the vehicle type, you get a breakdown by quarters that's much more realistic - the number on that front page is just one quarters number!!!

eg - the SS1 shows 207 for 2010 but in the breakdown it shows:

Quarter/#Licensed/#SORN

Q4 162 283
Q3 207 250
Q2 206 255
Q1 157 319

I'm trying to find out if those stats are total per year (which would mean there are a total of 1839 SS1 - there were only 1507 cars built) or per 1/4, so there were 476 cars in Q1, 461 in Q2, 457 in Q3 & 445 in Q4 which seemed too low until you couple it with the Ti data (which must include the Ti SST if you look at the numbers of SST):

Q4 67 68
Q3 79 48
Q2 71 70
Q1 64 80

giving 144 cars in Q1, 141 in Q2, 127 in Q3 and 135 in Q4

giving a total for all SS1 of 620, 602, 584 & 580 - still a fair chunk lower than I would have estimated ...... but?

If you really fancy some number crunching then by backtracking from that google website you can get to This Website, which is where you'll find all the raw data in downloadable excel spreadsheets of, for example, licenced by make/model, SORNed by make/model, and so on.

One thing which is a concern, is that in the "licenced by make/model" table, there are a huge number (c600 a quarter) of Reliants whose model is listed as "Missing" These don't seem (at least at first glance) to be accounted for in the google "overview"
(Thinking about it, that's probably because the search term was "Reliant Scimitar")

Edit - Re-reading your last note, maybe that's a running 600 ish , rather than 600 a quarter, still quite a large number though?

yep - already did that (from this table - I ran a search for Reliant then removed the 3 wheelers etc) and it gets really confusing:

Make.................2010 q4..........2010 q3..........2010 q2..........2010 q1

edit - info deleted as it corrupted somehow - reposted further down

this is only licensed cars but doesn't correlate with the numbers on the original page - or reality!

it's fine to give politicians data to say "there's fifty trillion cars on the road in UK today" but it's no good for detail work.

Yes that's the same spreadsheet you get to from the link in my note, which means I'm even more confused - your "missing" and "unknown" categories (for example) look very different from what I'm looking at????? :?

I just selected Reliant in the "make" drop down list, copied the result into a new sheet, then deleted everything missing a wheel, etc.

Jim,

Been following the thread and slightly confused with the various drop down and new tables etc... Doh! on my part.

Any chance that you've managed to get a definitive of sorts?

Ian

Jim, I follow what you're saying, but on VEH120 the row for GTE ODVE (category G8002) only contains 309 in the most recent quarter (2010 q4) ? Whereas your list shows 835??? :?

my head hurts.........

And, what about the SORNs?

I know it's gramatically incorrect to start a sentence with "and", but it seemed appropriate.........
