So should have taken a few more action shots but the cars were coming in thick and fast.
The guys who deserve some recognition are the few crews who are doing it in the very old topless ones, bit like this.
today , the first day of the event, was horrible, horrible weather. Very wet, very cold. Driving to this in tiverton at 3pm this afternoon was nearly blown off the road by a gale but with such hard driving rain you couldn't see. As if by magic for 1.5 hours it held off (whilst I was at this college) then it came back. Then when I left at 4:30 the road was flooded with surface water by a torrential shower.
So these crews had suffered this since 6am.
And yet the crews in the later cars (saab 900 specifically comes to mind) looked warm and cosy in their velour trim, soft lighting and warm heater.
Why would you want to subject yourself to such (unnecessary ?) hardship

Like it Mike!
Love the Consul Capri - can't recall seeing one of those on a rally before.

...and I had a bet you'd be the one posting all the pics Mike
Were you marshalling or just spectating?

I was supposed to be ,marshalling but late change of family stuff meant I had to drive to Exeter. The thought of spending the day shopping brought me out in a rash. My wife tried to soften the malaise by offering lunch at the Ship. However she then turned the rash into a full blown condition by saying her mother would be there. I started to become feverish and hallucinate but had a moment of strange insight, bit like Luke Skywalker. A deep voice in my subconcience said, ‘Check The Route’ Mike, ‘Check The Route’. and sure enough salvation was upon me.
So I dropped them orff and went to Tiverton....

The jag xjs was surprisingly nimble round the technical stuff.
The Datsun is a personal favourite from teenager days.
I met a couple of fellow compies (local sprint) scene so it was actually quite nice to have the banter

Thanks for the photos Mike! An interesting selection of cars, including some that you don't see very often

I agree and used to have an immaculate Consul Classic in the late 80s, to which I fitted a 1500 GT engine. It was a one owner car and had never had the plastic covering taken off the door cards. I remember the period advertisement for the car had a girl sitting on a deck chair in the boot! The lid was open I hasten to add!chrisgallacher wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:25 pmLike it Mike!
