This week at Aldi..

Post by philhoward » Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:03 am

Its compressor and air tools time again... Impact wrench, cut off tool, air shears and drills ahoy plus a spray gun kit. Was very temped last night; only went in for a pound of bananas...

Plus - some very funky looking safety glasses with inbuilt LED torch. Bought a pair (£3.99) and will try them out shortly!

If the shears did fibreglass, I'd have got them - but it said 1.2 to 1.6mm steel..?

dont see why not, steel is tough stuff. If I had a compressor I might be tempted, more toys........
Its usually ok for quality, I understand, may not last for pro use but good enough for diy, most cheapo stuff isnt. Am I right ?

No self protrait, but the LED torch bit works - focal length of the bulb convergance is about a foot from your nose, but probably a boon for working under a car!

Yep, got the bananas...

The cut off tool struggles a bit with heavy steel but slices through fibreglass beautifully...

Ah, got a backup solution waiting at Costco which Steve C reckons is a good buy, bit more money but is made by SIP who seem to have a good reputation, storage is the issue at the moment sadly otherweise I'd snap one of the two up.

Just tried my stuff. The wrench had to be exchanged as it leaked from the body and would not spin up. All 3 items work fine but not used in anger yet. The shears cut a 5mm wide slot in the metal as you cut so worth bearing in mind depending on what you want to use it for. I'm lucky my rented workshop was used as a spray shop and the compressor was still in when I took it over. I do have an Aldi special at home though; very useful bit of kit. Many more uses than you initially might think

Lidl do a VERY good thermal overall for about £20 from time to time, not always in stock, so grab them when you can.
