Now in 2014, do we have the technology to procure new door mirror plinths as mine are corroded to bits.
Don't fancy GRP plinths would really like rubber, can anyone advise if these are available?

You could make a cast and make some rubber ones, but GRP with rubber gaskets would probably be better

Or you could do the same thing, but use the polybush material that was discussed recently in the engine mount thread - I suspect that would resist weathering better than rubber? How it compares costwise I don't know.

I suspect the overall position hasn't changed much from that discussed earlier in this thread though? (unless someone else is making them and keeping quiet about it!)

Yep - I had the same idea Roger when I saw the polybush material.

I've never made moulds of anything though, so will be a bit of a learning exercise for me.

Mike.

Happy New Year to all. :pint

A couple of years ago I had a batch of Polyurethane plinths cast to order.

I PreSold ALL the ones that were paid for, but the manufacturers kept the moulds, which subsequently got thrown out.

I did however get from them all the rejects as I had paid for, and supplied the rubber. :W

While not being 100% brilliant a few of these are perfectly good enough to re use if yours have collapsed. :D

They all have air holes in them but are solid and are the correct shape, AND they are rubber so will form to the correct profile of our doors.

If anyone out there need One for MOT purposes ETC they are only £7 each Plus Post, or Free collection.

Just drop me a line and I will forward pictures and you can pick your own on a First Come basis.

I think I have a few PASSENGER side ones left too. :hurrah:

Regards Mark

Hi All

With reference to the plinths I had left over ( rejects ) I only had 2 pairs left and these have gone on a first come first served basis.

Non left now.

I am however looking at doing another run, but using a different supplier, so if your interested please feel free to get in direct contact so I can guage how many to get done and ultimately find out the price.

My direct mail is gtcse8@gmail.com

While on the subject of reman parts, I have just had another batch of SE6 to SE6b etc Rear Lamp Gaskets stamped in UV stabilized foam, and another batch of Shocker Bushes for the Koni and Monroe units that have steel Inner and Outer sleeve.

Once again, feel free to ask

Cheers Mark

GTC Door Mirror Plinths

Post by Rob Jones » Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:25 pm

Good afternoon All,

Had a price to re-make the GTC & SE6 door mirror plinths from black rubber using the correct injection moulding, the costs are as below if anyone is interested.

If we can get fifty orders, they works out at £18.79 per pair which seems a better option what is available currently.

Unless someone else has sorted this in the mean time??

Rubber Wing Mirror Plinths
Tool Cost £640
Price per pair £5.75 for 50 pairs
Delivery £11.90
Tool lead time 2 – 3 weeks and parts delivery 2 weeks from approval of samples.

Or is there a fund set to one side within the club for this sort of stuff??

Kind regards

Rob

I assume it's still a similar procedure that the best idea would be to approach the committee and see what they say? I don't know if they have appointed a new Spares officer yet?

50 pairs might be optimistic (but maybe not). But I would be very interested in a pair for my 1986 6B.

Are all mirrors/ plinths the same??

I wonder what we could do about the gaskets...? Sorry to be lazy :) , but does someone know offhand if these are available from the traders?

1) Rob, thanks for doing the leg work here, good man.
2) I'm happy to pay up front if it helps
