I'll be after a screen at some point, and a heated one would be a real boon for winter driving; I picked up a whopping stone chip yesterday, and also discovered that the inside of my screen is lightly peppered with grinder or welder rash! I've obviously got some kind of knack for picking cars with this problem, as the landrover I used to have had the same thing; stupid previous owner had done it repairing the bulkhead and not bothered covering the glass. That'll teach me to buy cars on ebay or inspecting them in anything other than bright daylight. :(

quick update - phoned auto-windscreens and asked if they'd checked QRG and Ricky Evans. Nigel (QRG) quoted £339.25 inc VAT and in stock, Ricky quoted clear at £115.70 and tinted (which I want) at £127.40 (not sure if that includes VAT) - no stock but they take 2 weeks (10 days if he asks for a rush job). Autowindscreens also let slip that trade cost for the screens is less than £100 - hence the insurance company will not pay over £400 even if it means a delay.

They phoned back in 10 mins to say that Ricky uses the same manufacturer as they do, but he's in Birmingham and autowindscreens (Yeovil) only pick up (from Pilkington/Triplex - in Birmingham) once a month (hence the initial 6 week quote).

Long & short - they are now going to fit both (SS1 & Sabre) screens in 2 weeks :D

Hopefully the SS1 will therefore make Brooklands 8)

update - SS1 windscreen was fitted today and I've arranged to have the Sabre done in the New year (they could have done it earlier but it wouldn't be convenient for me because the car's not MOTd). 16 days for a screen that you could forgive them for not having on the shelf isn't too bad I suppose?

Did you get any joy as regards the availability/cost of a heated screen?

I'd also express my interest in a heated SS1 screen, the one in my blue 1300 needs replacing in the future (scratched arcs, coming un-bonded, and if I was being petty, it isn't tinted!)
How much would we be talking roughly? Sub £200?

The topic of heated screens was only briefly discussed (as in - "was it worth the hassle with the GTE heated screens?" - "yes but order 5 times as many as you initially need because once one person sees one, everyone wants one!")

so - yes I will investigate them in the New year but handing over the role of merchandise officer, sorting out a new Chairman and getting the roll bars delivered are my main priorities.

Good stuff, and hope you find a willing volunteer to take over so you can step back and relax a bit. I've been a committee member of my local sailing club on and off for the last 8 years; doing this kind of thing is often a labour of love and the lack of feedback/help/gratitude can get you down after a while(it's not good if we give up our free time and get earache for it); when it stops being fun, it's time to stop.

thanks - I'm actually stepping down before it stops being fun :D

I still enjoy the cars, the people and the Club but I have to change jobs in the near future and hopefully location too, so I don't want to be in a position where the Club, or my family suffers!

Jim, did the heated windscreens for SS1's get any further? I've just had my screen out on the SST for the paint and then mould making. As it was already cracked before I took it out and I'm looking at a new one anyway.

No real progress ATM although Phil and I discussed them this month (along with the possibility of another GTE batch). I think there's one (non-heated) in stock in Yeovil (ordered for my sabre then not used) - I can try and find the email if you want?

Jim,
I need to get hold of one (Tinted) for the unbuilt Sabre Mk2 and will pay up now if required.
Regards,
Viv

I'd still be up for a teated screen with hint.

Though I have now replaced the one in KMG as it failed an MOT despite my best efforts to hide the crack eminating from the mirror stem with a club sticker!
