well I got a screen and decided to try Craigs method - and it worked perfectly :D

right up until I left a lamp on the screen and it cracked

then (while sorting through the Sabre paperwork - because that also needs a windscreen) - I found out that I was still insured on the SS1 (seperate to DJs insurance), with windscreen cover :D

phoned up - no problem £50 per car - Auto windscreens will be in touch forthwith :D

and they were - a guy was in the area, so he popped round within 30 mins to confirm and phoned from the depot within another 30 mins :D

no-one has a screen for under £450, we can have them made by Pilkington for less than that - but they'll take 6 weeks

If I can source windscreens, I can contact the insurance company who will authorise payment and fitment (if it's cheaper). I'll contact GW &QRG in the morning to double check but any suggestions?

the true cost of a screen is a fraction of your quote - although a one off maybe dearer.

How about the chap who made heated screens for the GTE ?

yep - trade price is obviously significantly lower, I suspect around £125-£175.

I did think of David (now our Club treasurer) - although I think they also took several weeks and were a lot of hassle for him - but I'll ask.

Am I missing something Jim - if it's insured and being done by Autowindscreens, why do you need to source it, or care about the price?

When I had the screen in the Yellow Peril replaced by Autowindscreens on the insurance, they did everything, found the screen, got it delivered (in 1 week) and fitted it. I only paid the 50 GBP.

Are you saying that Autowindscreens can't find any anywhere? It's not clear from your note.

cheers,

....Roger

I suspect that SS1 windscreens are NLA and made to order (unless someone has a stock they don't know about) - have you tried Ryan at Partsworld? Give him the part number though...

If you want mine removing, i'll have a go on Saturday but needs to be collected the week after...

cweeks on here looked into a group buy of heated ss1/sabre screens, was about £275-£300 each for quantity of 10.
if we were to get them remade, surely they make good sense, improving the breed and all that 8)

Hi,
I would like one screen please, new if possible, for my Sabre Mk2 for cash. It seems to me that if they are no longer available commercially that the Club could/should perhaps provide a stock (limited - say to 50) that could be used by the Insurance Companies or direct for Club Members & with an excess to non-Club members priced such that the Club cannot lose money but rather benefit from the excercise. If they are not going to be available then the numbers of SS1/Sabres will deteriate at an ever increasing number with an inevitable decrease in Club membership !
Regards,
Viv

QRG had them at around 220 new a few years ago.

yes - you missed the bit that said 6 weeks to make one If I want it fitted quicker, I need to source it myself.

The cheapest they can get is £450 - they won't pay that because they can have them MADE for significantly less.

Craig/Viv - I'm already (as of last night) looking into the cost of having a batch of SS1 heated/non-heated screensmanufactured.

does anyone have an email address for them - the online shop doesn't work, nor does the automated enquiry form. Anyone have the part number for a screen handy?

I have followed this with interest and wondered as I have a heated windscreen in the GTE if you would need to inform the insurance that it has been fitted and would it then be covered in case of breakage?

I only had the chance to use the heated screen once and it seemed to do the job nicely so i think they are a worthwhile investment especially if its your daily driver.
