SE5/A CILL / SILL? BODY REPAIR INSERTS

Post by gtcse8 » Fri Apr 27, 2018 8:58 pm

After numerous requests and a quite a few sets remanufactured out of Zinc galvanised plate I have a couple of sets available.

A lot of work has gone into making them so they come in at £12 each plus post.

I`m not aware of anyone else offering these items, or able to do so.

Yes Josh

£12 each, there's a lot of time going into all those bloody holes, wish I had the 6K machine that would stamp the holes quicker.

Do you know anyone else making them cheaper?, if so grab them.
Mark

Okay Mark, was just checking as they sounded cheap. Are these the ones that go up the front of the door or the ones underneath the doors?

That does sound good value, but as Josh says, some clarification is required as to whether we're talking about repairing

Heading Amended for a better description, but the other parts could also be fabricated?.

They are the Multi Holed, bottom inserts that are in Darryl`s top picture.

I have ONLY one set left out of the last set I made.

Made from thicker Galvanised sheet so they should last a lot longer than the originals.

More could be made if enough interest, but they will NOT be £12 each.

Mark

Would it not be easier to lay up that area with carbon/epoxy ?

Hi Mike

I don`t have an A post to copy, so if anyone has a trashed or better still complete one that I could beg steal or borrow to get the measurement's from I would do them a deal on the first batch?.

I DO however have the small folded stiffener plates as shown in the top of Darryl`s bottom picture.

While I`m on line I can now announce that the revised cost of the new Galved Cill`s comes in at £15 each, and post is £6.50 insured.

I have requests for 3 more sets so I will produce 5 sets leaving 2 sets up for grabs.
Lead time around Two weeks.

Mark

Might be worth a scan through this sticky thread - SE5a A-post dimensions / diagram for photos and info on the A-post reinforcing metalwork, and detailed drawings :)

Right everyone interested. :!:

I have printed the drawings from the sticky on A POST dims and compared them to my physical samples and cars.

There are a few problems with the screw mounting holes I have found. :w

It would appear that the factory plonked the parts into the car and then drilled the holes that were required to assemble the cars.

Biggest challenge I will have is convincing purchasers that I have not got the holes wrong just that they must re use their existing holes.

This is shown in the following pictures of the copied parts I already have, most of the smaller holes don`t match the drawings.

Some of the mounting points I can slot to help assembly but this all adds to the time and ultimately final costs. :?:

Many thanks to every contributor on the A Post fabrications and I cannot afford to fall into the old trap of producing items under the offer of a sale and then not getting my outlay back, been there and have a lot of stock un sold.

Maybe one day I could list it all and retire

and this surprises you? ? ? ? ? not

I think I might have some A post panels, I thought they were left over from a Robin rebuild, but obviously from the SE5a !!! need to dig them out from scrap pile as they were not too rusty . . .
