SE5 & SE5a FRONT TRIANGLES FOR SPARE WHEEL SUPPORT

Post by gtcse8 » Mon Feb 13, 2017 3:22 pm

As heading.

I have been asked to reproduce the Triangular supports for the Air duct and spare wheel support plate on the SE5a.

I can`t price them reasonably unless I make a few pairs so I`m gauging support for remanufacture.

If anyone out there is interested please get in touch so I can get a Group purchase, just like the front nose supports.

These will be cut and folded from 1.6mm Galvanised sheet so will/should outlast me.

Mark

Ok guys

That makes Three sets so far.
I will not be cutting the waterpipe hole in the passenger side, so it will not need blocking off as on my car.
Will probably be putting small slots for the lower bolts alignment into the chassis instead of the large holes also as on my car

Thanks

The temptation is powerful. I won't say yes just yet though. My car has the bottom radiator hose routed through the side plate, under the steering rack and into the water pump, so there is a hole in the plate. Would that be an option? If not what is the alternative route from radiator to pump?

Great Pete

We are getting there.

Four sets possibly so far

Chris the radiator pipe on the drivers side has to go through the steelwork unless you radically change the rad and pipework.

The parts in question are, with Reliant`s description.

R207669 Nose bracket RH with hole,( driver side ).

R207670 Nose bracket LH with hole, ( pass side ).

It would also appear that they are also for the early SE5 too?.

I have altered the request accordingly to see if SE5 owners are interested LOL.

Quite why Reliant put a large hole in the Passenger side is beyond me as the air escapes through it rather than pushing through the Rad??.

I have blanked mine off.

They probably got the Sheet metal workers to stamp out One shape then just bent the flanges to suit the LH or RH fitment for ease of manufacture.

Which is why I intend leaving #207670 blank as I`m only manufacturing a small quantity and can modify/alter parts to suit within budgets.

Once again I have failed to properly read your excellent descriptions. You're quite right. The hole I was referring to is indeed on the DRIVER's side.

Beware the triangular panels are different for Se5 and Se5a. Bolts holes in different places and slightly different shape. When you get both types together you can see the difference.

Dave, not had chance to take them off my SE5a and get the sizes drawn.

And I not got hold of asset from a 5 yet.

Rough guess would be about £40 a set, but the more I make the cheaper the steel costs.

Mark

Triangular nose brackets/plates

Post by gtcse8 » Mon Aug 28, 2017 11:51 am

As I have now started production of these triangular brackets I have found a problem with the THREE cars I own. :(

ALL of them have slightly taller plates on the drivers side!!!!! :!:

Or left hand when looking into the engine bay.

I find this odd as my cars are 1973 & 1974, plus the 1976 late car that I have looked at has the same problem. :|

It means that the spare wheel resting plate gets distorted when bolted down. :x

Has anyone else noticed this fault as I find it strange that someone in production at Reliant should have noticed this manufacturing fault, or am I just unlucky??. :w

I will rectify the problem on the new ones but as I have made the blanks now I shall have to find a way to rectify.

Triangular nose brackets/plates

I think they may all be like that, Mark? I remember fighting with 2 different sets (second set because I though the first set were duff).

Triangular nose brackets/plates

Post by gtcse8 » Tue Aug 29, 2017 10:36 am

Ok Phil
I think that too, as all the ones I have looked at are all folded slightly differently on either side by 1/2"

I am altering slightly the New ones so that everything lines up correctly anyway, don`t want complaints about my workmanship LOL.

I will also make bespoke units upon request, just as scimjim has, he does not need a few holes, captive nuts and horn mounting brackets which has shaved a bit off his final price so feel free to ask what`s available and the price may come down from the projected £25ish.
I can also supply a complete set of fixings if needed, all in HT zinc plated.
