A bit late in the day but I would be interested in a set as well. I did find a site selling brass window channel that seemed the right profile but other projects have diverted me.

Mini update - I haven't had a chance to touch these

Will definitely get on top of them in the next few months as I need to finish building Megan.

SS1 Quarterlight frames

Put me down for a set for each side please, assuming the price is not more than from Queensbury Road Garage. I have found what I believe is a source of brass channel that might do the job, (need to accurately confirm sizes) but would prefer ready made SS.

Interested, would love to hear more.
If they are stainless, why paint them ? Just another expense.
Where does one get a set of rubbers to fit them ?

Also interested in a simple cheap alternative arrangement - flat glass or plastic with a simple frame, perhaps even use mastic to seal the glass in....
Whats this brass section we read of ?

Sabre One they are handed because they curve inwards at the top and also follow the A post curve.

I have not been near the Sabre for months, other pressures, so not been able to move forward on this. However, to help me find out if the brass channel I have found would be suitable, does anyone have any measurements or profile drawings for the quarterlight frames? I am struggling to get to the car and strip out one of my frames to check. Any information would be gratefully received.

The rubber seals from around the glass are still available from Graham Walkers, I have just bought some in readiness!

Stainless quarterlights

Post by alyna » Tue Jun 11, 2019 5:08 pm

Hi all. After having had the pleasure of an SS1 1600 some years ago I have now acquired a Sabre Ti to keep my GTC company. The quarterlight frames are in a fairly bad state, and I recall there being plans for producing stainless ones, but I can't find any recent references to this. Can anyone en(quarter)lighten me on progress or lack thereof?

Cheers,

Alyn

Progress seems to have stalled - I want two sets ( for the SS1 and Sabre ) and a set for the MB but they have disappeared from the wish lists.

Hi Alyn, There is a thread on this in "Parts Re-manufacture Requests", into which I've merged your post. As Peter says, there doesn't appear to have been much recent progress?

SS1 Quarterlight frames

Post by gtcse8 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:53 pm

IF, and it`s a BIG IF the frames were considered for reman then a compromise would have to be reached over original shape to accommodate the window rubbers. :!:

The last set of 6a frames I saw were just folded into a U section and the rubbers needed gluing in place, whereas the Originals have a folded lip to grip those rubbers. :?

I have successfully repaired SE6 and SST frames by cutting off the rot and letting in a section of another frame OR a folded U section of galve steel. :|
It`s all very fiddly and the Original frames were produced from Rolled Folded strips and the machinery to produce this profile is very very expensive. :o
I have looked into getting the stuff re manufactured over the last 25 years and still not found a company that will supply me the raw extrusions.

Then there is the machinery needed to bend the stuff to the correct shape to seal the door rubbers, which is not helped by the different profile of door seal rubbers being supplied at present.
I have spent hours and hours trying to get a correct seal on a Middlebridge and have finally thrown the towel in and sourced OE Reliant seal material to replace the incorrect profile. :w
