Crouchie_b wrote:5a dashes seem to suffer from cracking around the fixing holes and the clocks so I've being helping Pete Brown with a mould to make replacements out of fibreglass.
The mould came off the plug that well that all the fine detail such as the crackle finish has come really well.
The final detailing was finished today & 6 coats of willslip wax (wax on, wax off, Mr Miyagi style) applied.
We should be ready to run the first batch pretty soon if any one is interested?
Crouchie_b wrote:Ok I've had the mould out and measured it and a couple of 5a's today. The early 5a's have the lock barrel centre point 1.25" from the edge of the face of the hexagonal moulding for the steering column while the later ones are 1.75" from the edge.
This does not cause any issue as we have moulds for either and you just need to let me know which one you have.
The RAL colour chart has been ordered and we should be able provide in tan as well as black.
Price yet to be confirmed but an indication of the level of interest will help to set it as keenly as possible.
Many thanks to those who have already expressed interest and for the feedback.

Update: the first part to come out of the mk1 mould came out very well indeed :-)
The crackle glaze effect comes through well, the clock & switch edges are all clean with the cut outs well defined even if I do say so myself.
The issue of the 2 ignition barrel positions has also been addressed but filling the cut out on this first part so that there is a continuation of the shape in the area into which either position can be cut. The area can neatly be finished off with a aluminium pressing that will slide over the barrel and hide the cut edge. the intention is to provide the dash & pressing, leaving the cutting of the dials, switches & barrel to the buyer to ensure a nice clean finish. This will also help keep the prices down 8-)
No final price yet as this will be dependant on development & production times and how much demand there is.

Evening All,
The 8 expressions of interest so far (thanks guys) means that this project is looking like it will go ahead.
Pricing as always is the thing but, if we can get the commercial gel coating & chop gun rig re-commissioned (just waiting on a supplier re-hoses), a price in the region of £140-160 will be about the mark.
However if it's by hand, the labour involved makes it at least double & I think it would then be unfeasible!
Feedback is always welcome
Bryan

An update from the last post - we have now assembled the majority of the commercial chop gun rig and have dry run the motor & pump. The gun has arrived and we are now just waiting for the new pipes & fittings to arrive before a test run.

It therefore looks like there is a realistic prospect of producing the dashes in small run batches in either black or tan.

Once the first one has been produced over the next few weeks, I'll post picture of the finished item and start an orders list.

I'm interested in a tan one. I'll go and measure the steering lock, when you're ready to produce them. Well done and good luck.

I'd be interested in a set in Tan and possibly a set in black.

Will check the fit when I get the chance.
