I just had a word with my very good bodyshop. They seem to very good value for money, the MG TF respray was £450 for example. I asked about having the GTC resprayed in solid colour, I would do all the body repairs and major dismantling. I was told to expect at least £1000 and another £100+ for metallic. The bodyshop a few doors away that trains spotty yoofs is charging punters £4000, so a new body at £2500 has to be a good deal.

When top quality GTE's start to go for 10k I think these are a great idea. I agree that for a £1000 snotter its hard to justify a £2500 shell, but its probably the scruffy paintjob, crazing and damage that means its a £1000 snotter in the first place.

If I was in the market for a good GTE then this would be my first port of call.

Any plans for any bits for the pointy cars? Us SS1 folk are feeling left out!

Nick

you and i will have to work on Phil-sciminut

as for Bob and the rest of the visually impaired scim GIT-lovers, I reckon sciminuts next offering should be composite white sticks and carbon harnesses for labradors

I'm a big fan of your work Phil,

£2.5k is a bargain. Does it come with doors and bonnet ?

Do you fancy knocking out some galvanised chassis' as well to make up a restoration kit ? (IRS optional  )

Following this thread with interest and i think one of the best points to come out of this is that at least there seems to be people who want a future for these cars. By that i mean not just because they can be picked up cheap.
That in itself is comforting and could also help boost the brand. If new owners know they can be catered for they will feel happier.
If body repair sections become available it could also change how the insurance industry values our cars.
Overall this level of interest is really going to get the brand noticed and has got to be a win win

I would certainly be interested in new galvanised chassis at a realistic price.

Sounds a great idea and although I'm not (yet) into GTE/C it looks like an attractive proposition, but what about collision damage? Are kits of this stuff available to patch/repair?

Thanx for all the comments and feed back, yes it can be repaired although it would have to be a big crunch to damage the new material unlike existing composites (Carbon for example) which shatters at the braking point our material does not bucking the trend of materials that are strong/stiff = brittal.... best way to describe our material properties would be to liken it to spring steel :!:

Tests at the BRE Garston Watford showed only some of the fibres fail at the braking point then it would recover to its original shape I will dig out some test videos and provide a link.....

I am confident values will rise significantly over the next 24 months, but as always the forum is the best place to test the water, comments are always well thought out and constructive

Thanx again

Phil :D
